Hub centric ring questions

I recently purchased some used 15x8 wheel vintiques steelies that were previously used on a TJ. I did a test fit on one of my axles and noticed I will need hub centric rings. The problem is I can not find the size I need online. The TJ hubs are 71.50mm and the wheels have a 79.375mm opening. The closest I found were 71.50 to 78mm. Just to avoid another question I did try to reach out to the previous owner with no reply thus far. Thanks for any help.

Edit: I just did some quick conversion math. If I went with the 71.50mm to 78mm rings it’s only .05” smaller than the wheel opening. Would that work or do they need to be exact?

50 thou is almost a sixteenth of an inch. With a gap that big, why bother?

So they do need to be an exact fit to make a difference is what I was thinking. I guess I could buy a size bigger and get them machined down?

They do need to be pretty tight to do what they are supposed to do, but they really aren't necessary, as the conical seat of the lug nuts will center the wheel.

Personally, I have hub centric rings on some vehicles, and not others.

Thanks for the replies guys so far. I just don’t want to damage anything if I run them without. It’s not going to get wheeled hard. The occasional trails and beach driving. I don’t plan on rock crawling. Just want it to be safe on the road as well. I will be running 33x12.50R15 on them too. Here is one mounted so I could test fit it. May or may not run the stock Jeep cap.

I agree and that’s basically the reason I posted the question. I have never ran wheels that didn’t fit the hub on any of my vehicles. I know that they are lug centric also, but obviously it would be better having the hub and lugs both centered on the hub. I just didn’t want to throw them on the Jeep when I’m done and have them off balance. Just checking with members to see what you all have done. I guess if I end up with a problem after I can add the rings.

They'll be fine.
 
just put all your lug nuts on hand tight first, then torque them in a cross pattern and i believe you’ll be good to go.
