Where can I get factory headlights with adjusters?

Hello,

I was attempting to adjust my headlights and the 16 year old hardware snapped. Does anyone know where to get a quality headlight assembly with adjuster? I don’t need the headlights.

Cheers
John

Could it possibly be a “Help” part?

A picture of what broke would be helpful - looking at the parts manual, it’s hard to correlate what you say broke and what it is in parts manual.

Hello,

It's the passenger top inner adjustment screw. I have only found assembly by Omix or Crown. See pic from Chilton below.

Take a look at this -

would it be possible to epoxy what broke? A picture of that would help to have a better idea of what your being faced with.

There are also places like Daveysjeeps Jeep’s and Dead Jeep’s who sale used parts, not to forget @Goreshnik on this website who sells used Jeep parts. There are others, but I would get with Goreshnik first if you can’t find one local or JB Weld it.

Hello,

The nut on the adjusting stud was frozen and when I attempted adjustment it snapped. See pic below.
I think others will do the same at disassembly. I think I’pick up a pair of assemblies and replace over the holiday break. Thanks for the link to Crown.

Cheers

The aftermarket ones are kind of crappy, but frankly the OEM mopar ones aren't that great either, and the torx screws strip out like it's their job. I'd just get the cheap Crown ones.

Maybe cleaning the threads up a little would be a good idea? WD40? Followed with a little 3in1 oil or 1 to 1 mixture of acetone and tranny fluid? Or PBBlaster?

Its not like these are being adjusted all the time (I doubt for a majority of vehicles they're never touched, probably like 99% of the fasteners used to build a vehicle). After all other than lug nuts, oil drain pan plug, and maybe differentials and possibly brake components - headlight adjusters would be next. Pretty much everything else, once tightened is never again loosened.

Hello

I did soak down with PB Blast. Studs are heavily pitted. I needed to adjust due to led upgrade. Once adjusted hopefully never have to touch again. Any hardware and the northeast where I live is always a challenge.

Those aren’t the adjusting screws those mount the assembly to the grill. To adjust them you have to take the headlight ring off and then you will see the three small adjusters. You can replace those studs not sure exactly what they are called but they look like this.

Once you get the broken stud out you could just throw in a sheet metal screw . If it’s too hard to find one like the oem.

That makes sense - not sure what the purpose of the nut is seen in the OP’s actual picture. And I agree, these should never have to be turned unless the whole assembly is being removed from the vehicle (probably why they used a torn head).

The studs are supposed to be part of the mounting bracket. So when you install the whole bracket you have 3 studs protruding from the plastic and then you install the nuts after it’s inserted Into the grill. First picture has the adjusters and the second has the mounting stud (note 2 missing in the picture)

Hello,

Yup they are mounting bolts. Adjusters are behind bezel. I pulled a bone head move. Live and learn. Thank you all for your help.

Ahh - so the washer looking piece that is a part of the pictured stud would be screwed in against the mounting base “ring” (lower picture above), then that assembly would be inserted through the “firewall”, and then washer nuts as seen in the OP’s first picture post would be put on the back side to hold the base in place.
Which then means the broken stud isn’t the headlight adjuster - the headlights are adjusted using a different set of screws behind the headlight bezel as 03Sahara has confirmed.

Hopefully this clarifies to the OP that what he suggests he was turning to adjust the headlights (and broke) was in fact a headlight assembly mounting stud.

Reviving an older thread since it was the only thing that came up during my search

While trying the swap out my headlights and 75% of the the tiny torx screw were destroyed beyond recognition. I’m guessing a new headlight bracket would be an easier option versus trying to get these tiny screws out. My little former beach cruiser is more rusty then expected.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Funny enough just responded to your PM. I have a set of OEM headlights from my 05 TJ I no longer own. They were in great shape when they came out. Car had 65k miles. I am in North NJ

Hey Schmoupe

I think I need the entire assembly with brackets. The salt air has really done a job on the little screws. All the heads snapped off
