For all of us with two wheels also

New National record pass. 268.38 mph in a 1/4 mile. I bet that was a heck of a ride!

Had to post this photo. First decent putt on the Sportster.

Fernley to Modesto via highway 50 and highway 49, and the ride was superb!
Weather was great, got to putt with a long time riding buddy all weekend, and had a great ride home!

Had lunch in Sonora on Saturday, and the town was packed with scooters.

Next trip is planned already.

Fernley to Eureka on highway 299, then down highway 101 to highway 1 down to highway 128. Down 128 through the Napa valley to Vallejo.

Then I’ll circle back to Modesto, and go home via highway 49 and US 50 again.

And if anyone hasn’t done the highway 1 and highway 128 combo, you gotta ride it. It’s one of the best rides I’ve done. Twisties for most of the way, and some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll ever see!

Not to mention going through the Napa valley and hitting all the wineries to do a little tasting and grab some superb food!

Saturday of last week, I combined passions and hauled one of my favorite bicycles to a group ride on the back of the Ural. The bike is a 1954-ish Robin Hood frame with a Tange fork, Berelli bars, 700c Alesa rims, old old Fulger front drum brake and a Bendix 2 speed fixed gear rear hub modified by moi.

I'm not a fan of group rides on any kind of bike, unless I know who I'm riding with, but I did this one as a favor for a friend. We biked through Oak Park, IL to see some of Frank Lloyd Wrights' work and pay a visit to Barnard's Schwinn, a going concern since 1905. That's my bike on the left.

The next day, I took the 1970 Gitane Mexico track bike off the repair stand for its maiden ride. It didn't break and I didn't die, so it was a good day.

I've always wondered why motorcyclists cut into the double yellow like that. They seem to all do it on the mountain pass to my parent's house. Is there a purpose or are they just cutting the corner to go faster?
More visible when in the center of the road.

I try to stay off the paint as it's slicker than asphalt. But I do move around the lane depending on traffic or conditions to see better.

Yeah that makes sense. What I always see is the tires a few inches maybe from the lines, but they're leaning into the turn which puts them way into my lane

To be fair though a lot of people in cars struggle to stay in lane on that road too it seems. So maybe it's just people that don't drive as a hobby like me lol

Makes sense I guess. Seems like it'd be safer to do it in a way that doesn't put you 8" on the wrong side of the road but that's just me I guess

My guess is they are taking a turn too fast and drift into the other lane. Or trying to get a better line on the next curve.

The harder you lean the faster you can take a corner sometimes.
Back when I was a teenager, I was heading up a country road for a hike with some friends and as I was coming around a blind corner a guy on a bike was in my lane and swerved to miss me a crashed. His buddy was behind him and tried to jump me when we'd stopped to make sure the rider was ok. Luckily the guy that crashed yelled at his buddy that it wasn't my fault.

Wow that's crazy! How scary. Yeah lots of people cut corners so I guess that's kinda what ya get. At least he wasn't an ass about it, decent guy.

They're probably taking it too fast/leaning to take it fast. Cos it's like, yeah your tire is in your lane, but the closest thing to me is your noggin when you lean like that and it is definitely in my lane lol
