My peeves with the TJ

Kinda sickening that we're within spitting distance of the prices in California...

I would love me some $5.15 gas. Even gas on base is higher.

I had a 304 powered CJ7 that would roll over on command and twist driveshafts like they were made of licorice. That said, I do miss the classic styling. That is hard to beat!

I had one of those. CJ7 with a worked 304, part time kit and a SOA conversion. It was one of the scariest things in the world to drive.

Yes, and I've driven more TJ's with half doors than most on here.

Absolutely they are life changing. I can't think of a more perfect product or appliance that sucks at what it is supposed to do as much as half doors do. So yes, they take something simple and basic that the entire rest of the automotive world has figured out, then they fuck it all up so it changes your life to just miserable if happen to be one of those who places a modicum of value on things working properly and continuing to work properly.

I know I am generally pretty easy to impress but I find my 25 year old half doors do exactly what I ask of them. They open and close when I want them to, give me a place to hang my mirrors and most importantly prevent me from putting those ridiculous foot pegs on the door hinges.

Funny half doors came up-

I think it was @Plumber1 that said they are good to hang an arm on as you lean out for tire placement off road.

They do cut down some air flow inside, even with the top off - my wife and @Zorba wear skirts, so there. And no I’m not married to Zorba. But we do LIKE each others posts a lot.

I like the look, at the same time no doors at all really does have a feel you can’t get any other way.

It’s really amazing how much heat/lack of air flow they can manage to contain inside.

Maybe you should try one - just be forewarned that once you experience that FREEDOM, its very hard to go back to pants! ;)

We have a green 4 door jk in town with matching 1/2 doors- it looks great.

Yep, I like to run the air on recirc with the top off too- just to get the entire experience - keeps my airfreshener in the vehicle, keeps Covid out, and the entire time I drive I’m outside but inside, and moving but sitting still.

I probably need to go to bed.

They may be the clothing equivalent of running only half uppers 🤪. That would be a fresh look.

On topic- seriously -and these are hard to fix ones -

My TJ pet peeves-

1. Out of production-

2. The turn signals in the front fenders-it isn’t the where entirely , as much as the blocky, dated look and the lens itself - looks like a tractor component.

3. Can’t see the dash well with steering wheel lowered.

4. Seat belts need more spring tension

5. Door handle direction seems nonintuitive at first

6. No backseat leg room -

7. Stock headlights are barely enough

All said, nothing serious enough to keep me away from them. I love the overall package. We would all change things - but a 1,000,000 buyers voted- the TJ was the biggest success to date in it’s time for the Jeep.
