Replaced Headlights with Truck-Lite Knockoffs

Has anyone else noticed how the whiter LED headlights seem to not work as great in the rain?

I love everything about my LED’s (especially how they seem to make road signs glow- great for me since my vision isn’t up to par), but I’ve been considering getting some amber colored aux lights to use in the rain because the pavement seems to just not light up as well.

We live in the rain 8 months of the year. Which auxulillary amber lights you looking at?

Got the knockoffs installed this weekend and feel like they did need a lot of downward aiming, but I was able to get them aimed fairly well I think. Definitely at the upper end of how far they can be aimed, but workable.

The aiming adjustment did make it so I cannot get to the highest screw in the headlight bezel. It's not the first time I've 3M taped, and it won't be the last time I 3M tape. Less than ideal but again fairly workable from my perspective.

The lighting seems like a pretty nice improvement from the Delta Xenon X4s I had in there before, which were again a marked improvement from the stock Happy Meal Giveaway lights. I didn't go with LED originally because I don't really love the look of a lot of them on a TJ, I think they look too space-age, but these WHDZs look pretty good I think.

Overall I would say that for the price they were worth a go for me, given how we drive our TJ. If this was my daily driver or we drove it a lot at night I would probably pony up for the Truck Lites, but for a summer runabout we use mostly for cruising around back roads and going to grab ice cream, I'm satisfied with the cost/performance ratio of the WHDZs.

Ordering those headlights on the first page right now. Looked through so many replies and I think it’s the right decision but I’ll update results when I get them.

Only one way to know if they will work for you is to try them. You could return or sell if you like them. I had an impossible time aiming them and once I got them low enough there was still strange pattern that illuminated the bottoms of overhead trees. Didn't work for me. You mike feel different about them.

Let us know when you get them if they have the brand name printed on the back.
They do not have the brand name on the back. The DOT SAE is in fact on the headlight. However there is a huge problem: the packaging. I cannot for the life of me understand why they decided to protect the headlight with 4 inch thick plastic everywhere EXCEPT the front. I used a razor at the normal box cutting length and it made a DEEP scratch in the cover. If you plan on buying this headlight I suggest using your hands to open the box. I’ll post what I can notice during the day next but that’s absolutely horrendous.

First thing I notice is how much more it sticks out than the stock headlights. Nearly a good half inch or so.

They’re about the same size circumference-wise, so it was as snug as the stock ones (which even that had a little bit of room left).

In person, they don’t seem too bright, like enough to make me squint hard. I can stand close without having my sockets melted indiana jones style. I can’t drive it out right now but I’ll make sure to run tests later for any adjustments I may need, as I saw someone say they got flipped off for having them aimed a little too high. Overall 4/5 only missing that fifth one because of the horrendous packaging precautions.

Have any problems adjusting them?

Even with them properly adjusted I still found the light pattern illuminating the trees directly above and in front of the Jeep. Annoyed the crap out of me. I sold those lights after a month.

Put in my SUP-LIGHT brand truck-lite knockoffs yesterday, haven’t adjusted them yet but no complaints thus far except that they did freeze over pretty good on my way to work this morning.
Anyone ever tried spraying something on to at least help keep em from freezing so much? WD-40? Ceramic spray?

And don’t say heated truck-lites or JW’s 🙃🤑

Can't help you with the freezing lights... I took the knockoff truck-lites after less than a month of use.. But I have the same scratches around the grill openings. From the plastic grill inserts. Wish the PO never installed them.

How far down have you guys typically had to adjust your knockoffs?
Just wondering if this looks like a pretty average vertical adjustment or if it’s abnormally far down compared to others.

So far down that it broke my adjuster and still wasn’t enough. Returned them and got the real thing. Much happier. Except for trying to replace my broken adjuster. Bought aftermarket, it doesn’t match the quality of OEM, shocker.

It doesn't matter whether headlights "look" the same as someone else's jeep. Differences in lift and tires will require different angles. What matters is whether the lamps are properly aimed with respect to other traffic.

Fwiw, the knockoff version doesn’t have a very good internal design to block the LED. They are nearly impossible to aim in such a way that prevents blinding others. The legit version does a very good job at it.
