Work from home LJ

Got some mounts for my full doors in the mail today. Its 98 degrees here and the doors were just sitting in garage. Got them off the ground this morning and freed up a bit more space.

Intend on breaking down my new (to me) Dana 30 in morning to check out the condition and begin the fun part of this build

Which wall mounts did you go with? I need to find a patch of wall for mine as well.

I drilled 2 new holes in since I only had vertical studs to mount too.

Got shelves and work bench mounted/built. My tiny garage is half way decent now.

Started on big brake kit install tonight.

Had to cut 2 of unit bearing bolts out. Which wasn’t fun.

Gave up when knuckles wouldn’t budge. I’ll pick up a BFH in morning and continue the install.

I’d be shocked if these parts aren’t original. They’re 18 years worth of stuck and the shocks say Chrysler on them.

I have new ball joints on the way and will work on cleaning up new (to me) Dana 30 axle after bbk is done.

I noticed my inner axle seals on my currently installed Dana 30 are toast. Typically I’d fix that, but this axle is being replaced in 2-3 months and can be fixed then.

I specifically wanted to do brakes first as a learning experience before tackling 4 projects at the same time. That will lead to some rework (taking apart multiple times) but at least by the end of it, I’ll be able to do with my eyes closed!

Be careful hanging your doors like that. Full doors are heavy and like to crack at the weld where the upper frame ties in to the lower door. Preferably you want to hang by the hinges.

Is that real? How common is this? I specifically went with these over building mounts for door hinges.

I can redo if I absolutely need to. Damn it. I want list of projects to get smaller not longer

In my experience, yes. And I’ve read about others as well. Maybe some others will chime in if I’m being alarmist or not. I do know the doors are weak in that area and will crack from repeated shutting the door without door surrounds on. I would err on the side of caution.

Well I shut the door every day without surrounds on. I’m doing everything wrong lol

I've got a set of these and am happy with them. They have little nylon inserts where the door pins go in. I put some glue on them because they wanted to come off when I removed a door. ACE door hangers

I came across these slightly cheaper ones and was thinking about get them for when I have the full and half doors off. Never have got them though.

Just ordered a set. I’ll try them out and report back

Checked the part numbers and the shocks are OEM.

Jeep has at least 2” lift. that probably explains why it rides so rough.

Finished breaking down passenger front side this morning (at 6:00am because my wife is a nurse and gets up at crack of dawn).

Once I got everything apart, I noticed a slightly sloppy ball joint.

I have new ones on hand for my axle rebuild and didn’t want to use those on a temporary axle, so I pulled the best option from my donor axle and installed.

Got the new to me Dana 30 on bench and broken down as well.

Hope to get passenger side big brake kit mounted up tomorrow morning and move on to drivers side Friday/this weekend.

Any idea on where to get TJ 5.13 gears? Dana 30/Dana 44 rear

Wrapped up big brake kit install this morning. Will do break in procedure tomorrow morning.

Ordered 5.13 gears. I’m leaning towards Eaton e lockers. I don’t really want to run air to both axles and drive in snow a few times a year (rules out automatic lockers/lunchbox for example).
