Hey all

Need some help identifying something that looks like it was cut away from the rear of my 2000 sport

I’m guessing it was the rear seat bar based on the fact that the brackets are still there but empty.

If it was the sway bar, Is it needed? Should I replace it?

Btw- don’t make fun of my rust. This baby lived at the beach for 5 years. Lol

Thanks

It wouldn't be a huge deal for me. Some lighter models like the SE didn't even have them from the factory. The rear bar is tiny and the front is massive. Unlike the front bar the rear is almost impossible to tell if it's connected, at least mine it makes very little difference. Looks like they just cut the links and they are hanging free. In your shoes I'd remove all the bolts, if any break I'd find something else to play with. If everything comes out then I'd get the links, bar and bushings and put all back together. I'm sure you can find one used pretty cheap, maybe car-part.com or Davey's Jeep?

Forgot to mention, I’m not the rock crawling type. This rig is more a daily driver and weekend beach buggy. Not sure if that matters

My personal opinion is vehicles with coil springs at all four corners do much better with f/r antiswaybars. Leaf spring vehicles? Nah. Leaf springs are stable in all directions except up and down. Coil springs aren't stable in any direction.

I unknowingly broke a rear antiswaybar link while taking 3 Boy Scouts offroading out in the desert. Breaking one link disables the antiswaybar entirely. We drive home through the mountains which meant lots of tight turns and even those 3 kids noticed the additional sway and body lean. They started making all kinds of 'whoa' comments around the curves once they noticed it. It was noticeable enough to me to stop to figure out what happened which is when I discovered the busted link in the rear.

For those who claim to not be able to notice it, I just don't know what to think. I've experienced it front (when I had front discos I had forgotten to reconnect) and rear as above and it's not something that takes training to notice.
