I know we've got a few car guys out there...I thought this might be a neat thread. I'm a product of the 80s and 90s, so I didn't get to grow up with "cool" cars. Right now, here is my list:

  • Ford GT40...duh
  • An OG Porsche 911... Before they got plasticky
  • 71 or 72 Vette, convertible. Gotta be an early C3 with front and rear chrome bumpers. It's just a classic Corvette and perfect in my eyes.
  • Datsun 240z... Or even better, a Fairlady z 432 (hey, if we're dreaming, dream big, right?)
  • 68 or so Meyer Manx (Dune buggy) my dad had one in my formative years... I'll always have a spot in my heart for them
  • 72 K1500 short box, either flavor
  • My TJ... Yeah, for real. The TJ came out when I first realized my love of exploring outdoors... I wasn't ever a fan of YJs and CJs are always clapped out (where I live anyway)
  • If you hold a gun to my head and make me pick a traditional muscle car...Olds 442. I've always liked the Cutlass (again OG RWD)
As I was thinking about this list... It feels a little bit eccentric to me. No pony cars, and muscle cars aren't really my thing either. I've always liked turning vs going in a straight line, so I guess that's why I gravitate towards the older sports cars... But the British ones don't really do it for me either. I'm 6'2", and I don't really fit in them, so that might have something to do with it.

Someday, when I'm a gazillionaire, maybe I'll start picking some of these off!

This is a tough one....

- 1966 Shelby GT350
- 1966 Pontiac GTO
- 1967 Sunbeam Tiger
- 1985 1/2 Ford SVO Mustang
- 1998 Porsche 911 (Type 993) Bi-turbo (Last of the air cooled 911s)

For starters. . .

37-39 Chevy Master Deluxe, or Buick or LaSalle bomba build
Dodge WC-10 or WC-53, w/ 12V CTD and King Ranch style leather interior
AC Cobra aluminum body kit, massaged to fit my proportions, with a very healthy 289
49-50 Hudson Commodore leadsled
'57 Plymouth Belvedere wagon
'57 Lincoln Premier
63-68 IH Travelall
a bone stock CJ2A
a Hoonigan style 70-71 Maverick

Pre-AMC era Willys jeeps. CJ-3B is the top pick, but I like CJ5 and CJ6 from that era too. I grew up in India with Mahindra versions all around me and it's just embedded in my memory. I'd love to get one and learn to restore it myself.

A well setup TJ 🙂

70 series land cruiser. I like the 4 door SUV and the truck. It's a shame that we do not get these in the US in some form.

Ford GT (modern). I'm not into muscle cars and fast cars much at all, but after reading about and learning about this car I really love it.

Ferrari 288 GTO. That sound ...

Older Porsche 911 (This will be in most lists I guess). Anytime I see off photos of a nice 50s/60s older well maintained house with a 911, I cannot stop starting at the car. It's just so .. right.

I have a few more .. Will update here a little later tonight.

edit adding few more

Morgan_Plus_8 - I love the lines on this car .. modern old car if you will, kind of like the TJ in that sense.

I am an SUV/truck guy mostly and am a sucker for any 1940s trucks, primarily mopar. I'd love to restomod one with an electric motor. But I would take any old land cruiser, defender, f100, commando, cherokee.... Again, I would happily convert those to an electric motor and enjoy them. I'd also rock a v8 in some, but I like the idea of a modern throwback.

Wow. I can *start* a list, but ending it might be a different problem...

'65-'73 280 SE or SEL (preferably) W108 Mercedes-Benz, preferably with an OM-617A diesel engine retrofitted, but any of the original gas motors would be fine too. The 4.5 V-8 was a great engine. That's the newest.

'60-'66 P2500 GMC (1 ton) pickup with the 9 foot stepside bed. What I grew up with and I'll carry a torch for that truck to the day I die. '63 preferred - it had the "E" version of the 305, the "modern" hood, yet was the last year for the "lean forward" A-pillars with wrap-around windshield. The 305 GMC V6 is my favorite gas engine of all time - but I wouldn't complain if someone had dropped a 351 V6 into the truck instead.

Late 50s Mercedes 300, or 180/190/200D

Pretty much any pre-war Mercedes, including the 170D. Pre war Packards, Duesenbergs, Pierce Arrow, Cadillac, Rolls, etc, etc - all VERY elegant cars.

I've never been into sports/muscle cars, although I can admire and appreciate them. I wouldn't complain about a C3 'Vette, or a 300SL Gullwing. An old Marmon or Stutz Bearcat would be cool.

Any kind of old, heavy duty truck - the more gears, levers and transmissions the better. 2 speed rear ends, brownie splitters, etc, etc. I said "heavy duty", but old Jeeps and Jeep pickups with 4 levers through the floor are a dream!

Then there's my "Bucket-T" dream. Preferably with a GMC 702 V-12, but other funky engines such as somebody's straight 8, other V-12s, or even a GMC V6 would be very cool. Bonus points awarded for something completely insane and impractical like a radial engine... There's a 1920-something Benz running around that has a 21 litre Maybach Zeppelin engine in it, supposedly you can hear it fire up 5 miles away!

I'd also like a steam car of some type. Its my understanding that steam turbines don't downscale well, so maybe a walking beam engine? Or how about something with a hot bulb engine?

My neighbor when I was a kid had an RD-6 Cat bulldozer with the 3 cylinder D6600 engine. 8 inch stroke by 5.75 inch bore, idles at 150, max power at 650, max RPM at 900-something. Sounds like fun to me!

TJ on 42s
JT on 37s
Denali 2500
E36 M3
996 911
74 Bronco
68 Fastback

Nothing really unattainable, but definitely a few hundred thousand dollars worth of cars I plan on possessing.

I’d like a M715 Kaiser too, and prob some sort of 4 wheel steer buggy. and I should probably add in some sort of DD luxury sedan like an M5 or E55 AMG.

Didn't Jesse James do a motorcycle with a rotary engine in it?

I forgot a couple... That's what I get for paying right before bedtime, lol

I can't believe I left a Ferrari off my list. A late 60s 275 GTB would be fairly nice to have.

I also have a soft spot for Gen 1 Broncos.

I remember the re-release of the 2nd GT-40, they were around $180k when they came out and I tried my best to convince the wife it'd be a valuable car and to get one. Didn't happen, now they're worth north of a mil? lol

I thought MSRP was 145k, dealer markup made up the difference.

Also a child of the 80s and 90s here.

Datsun Z definitely makes the list. I've had one, but it was a rust bucket and I'd like to have a clean one some day. My dad had one when I was 7 and it cemented it as my favorite car ever. It's still the only vehicle I've worked on/disassembled to a further extent than my TJs.

Ford GT, would love all 3, would settle for any

Mk 2 Supra that looks completely stock but has a 2jz swap.

A kit car that I built

Early Bronco

Delorean

C2 Corvette

And hell why not...a Ferrari F40.
