My peeves with the TJ

The TJ came with way too many Dana 44's for the rear axle. No need for the extra cost of the 44 when the 35 is so successful.

Possibly for the average mall crawler i guess. Not sure what you mean by too many though? Glad mine is 44 at least. That and the prior owner was smart enough to upgrade the axles as well :)

Too many means that the need wasn't really there given the overall success of the Dana 35. I've seen more than a smattering of TJ Rubicon and Rubicon Unlimited models that have 44's front and rear. They don't go any place a stock SE can't go. In other words, a total waste of lockers and housings.

You know guys I’m driving up the parkway in Huntsville Alabama and looking at the age of vehicles and you don’t see many vehicles still on the road that are 20 years old being driven daily except the TJ And the occasional older work truck

While I love my TJ my 2002 Subaru Outback Sedan is at 287,000. We brought our daughter home in it from the hospital in 2002 and now is her daily driver at college.

That is really cool.

Our daughter was 3 months old, our friends had a baby and we went to the hospital to visit- we walked in, I sat the carrier on the desk at the nurses station and said “ I have a return, it leaks”. They freaked a little.

Oh...One big pet peeve of mine is the stupid door strikers. Two reasons...One I've had them poke holes in my kidneys (or so it feels like) rolling out of the seat to get out of the bathtub. The other is the weak return spring on the seatbelt allows the belt to hang up on that striker...and the door then smashes the seatbelt.

One good thing about that u-shaped striker is that it works pretty well to open beer bottles...

^^^^^^ this ^^^^^^

Annoys the shit out of me. The seat belt webbing is chewed up. There's that deadening sound when you casually swing the door closed not realizing the belt is in the way. I am about to order a replacement set right now.

Other annoyances?

The door latches are on backwards.

Love the look of halfies. Hated having to stow the uppers.

Automatic transmissions. They are mind numbing. Kinda like having an automatic motorcycle or Vette... it's for girls.

Anyone who hates fogs lights never drove in fog/rain. That said... I hate it when people drive with fogs light on when there is no fog/rain.

Non factory quirks.. Tube bumpers, those stupid grills and the cowl vent scoops, regardless of which way they are mounted.

Nothing annoys me more than light bars. Not just the windshield mounted ones. Just light bars in general. The dickhead driving around on a well lit street with a gojillion LED bars lit up. Or the f*cknut who has only the light bar on and is oblivious to how to aim it.

Pretty much everything else can be remedied with the internet and a wrench.

I get in my TJ and smile ear to ear.

After years of YJ drivers doors cracking you think they could have come up with a way to stop this from happening with the TJ's

I have full doors, but think the half doors look really cool when the top is down.
I have the 4cyl and it's bullet proof, no power, but that's about to be fixed with re-gearing.
I'd rather have the dependability of the 4cyl, personally. I'm in no hurry.
Fog lights, meh usefulness. But, gotta have em for that Jeep look IMO.
About the ONLY thing I really detest are the Ugly Turd or Darth Vader grilles.

X2 regarding those grills

My pet peeve is people that can't spell perfect. 🇺🇸

pre·fect
[ˈprēˌfekt]

NOUN
  1. BRITISH
in some schools, a senior student authorized to enforce discipline.
    synonyms:
    monitor · praepostor · prepostor
  2. a chief officer, magistrate, or regional governor in certain countries:
    "the prefect of police"
    • a senior magistrate or governor in the ancient Roman world:

😂🤣

I bought mine 2 years ago. Couldnt do anything about the 4 cyl but I did toss the ridiculous front grill cover that made it look like it was scowling. Tossed the massive 9" KC lights that hung off each corner of the windshield and ditched the winch that had seized and smoked my battery when I tried it for the first time.

This may sound stupid, but I routinely miss a "dome" light for when I drop things at night or want to see where to put my drink in the console. Ended up using a battery powered LED light bar that velcros to the top bar. I do run tube bumpers because they are light weight...anything to help out that 4cyl. 5th gear is never really an option ;)

For those annoyed by the lack of retraction of your seatbelts, you can pull them out as far as they go, wash them bit by bit with hot water/light soap mixture (very light). No need to get the belts soaking, but you will need multiple cleaning cloths. Add a drop of oil on the gears. Do the same for the rear belts. If you get the belts too wet, let them dry fully before retraction. Mostly good as new. Mostly.

I guess my only real pet peeves with the TJ is the rear view mirror was too low and in my line of sight and I hated the way the outside door handles were turned and had to open them with my thumb.

When I saw someone post how to swap the door handles, that became my favorite mod. And I built a mount to move the mirror up out of the way so both problems were easily resolved.

The TJ has probably been one of the most fun vehicles I've ever owned that I really enjoy driving.
