My 17 year old Lj was in need of a replacement top and having been a repeat customer of Bestop's over the years on CJs, YJs, and TJs didnt hesitate to order from them again. I also figured I would get the full replacement frame. I didnt really need a frame, and my factory one was in perfect shape, but after 17 years figured she could use a new frame too.

Overall I am happy with the fit and finish of the new top with a few exceptions.

Tramp Stamp - Been discussed here. Doesn't bother me greatly so I havent bothered to remove it. Just wish they would have been a bit more tasteful. Was always ok with the little Bestop Logo on the back window in the corner.

Frame: Rattles and is a lot louder than stock frame. As also stated here, keep your mucked seals, those little rubber grommets under the door surrounds. That helped greatly, but its still a bit more noisy than the factory frame.

Warranty claim: First time rolling up the back window for a cruise after arriving at my destination I noticed the drivers side sagging. Seems in the wind the snap on the rear bow pulled out and somewhere along the way the back strap blew out the opening. After numerous emails back and forth with Bestop Support (assuming overseas now based on chat support names) they asked me for the part numbers I needed. I get an email telling me 6 to 8 weeks ill have my parts. Now mind you I only really need one snap to screw back into the rear bar and a strap kit, then send me the whole back bow assembly. Arrived today. ;)

Door surround plunger thingy: If you've put up a soft top on an LJ its a bit of an art to get the front moving over the roll bar from the rear of the Jeep, then dance around to one side to get the top attached to the door surround. Sometime this is a gentle crash of the top against the surround. Its happened 100s of times on my old OEM top, but this time the top comes down on the plunger piece and it falls to pieces! Luckily I was able to reassemble the pieces and it seems to still function. Maybe I'll file a warranty claim to have them send another set of door surrounds! ;)

Other than the fact I couldnt get the top in the original Khaki, I'm still happy with the upgrade, but I might have opted for the Replace-a-top option had I known the issues I would encounter with the Frame.

I'm not sure what part you are calling the plunger thing.

With my top (it's a 06 TJ) I had an issue with the top material fitment...too short. BT gave me a complete new kit. BT is based in Louisville, Colorado, and all of the phone people I talked to are in that building. I had awesome Cust Service with "Shawna".

When I went to put the new top on, I found that I had tightened the door surround bolts too tight, which cracked a part of the surround. New surround and bolts are snug, and holding fine. if your top is too loose, with the bow brackets there are the 3, bow adjusting holes on the rollbar to make it tighter (if LJ has that).

Driving with the rear window rolled up has been good, especially with those corner stiffener inserts. Haven't driven without them, so can't comment on flapping.

I didn't like the BT tag on the back either, but I used a black Sharpie to dull it up. I hardly notice it now.

I like the look and quality of my Supertop NX which I bought last year to replace a faded original soft top (2001), but I have to say the frame hardware isn’t as robust as the original. In particular the frame parts when folded down rattle against each other - I’ve had to use some small cinch straps to hold them and stop them rattling. As the original frame is in excellent condition I'd put it back on, if the soft top would fit. Should have bought a replace-a-top but I wanted the folding bit…

I have read that the Supertop frame is not as good as the OEM. I ended up getting a RAT a few years ago. I'm not sure if the Supertop can be moved to the OEM top though.

With the top being brand new I was lucky to get the soft top into the lowest part of the bracket that tightens the top. Its tight as a drum, which is good. Again, only bashing Bestop a bit from the quality that I have come to expect from them. Based on your experience WW2 Jeeper maybe I should have called vs using the chat function on the website. Much like posting here on the forum, I'm usually on work calls trying to resolve these issues multitasking. :)

The good part is regardless of the issues they have replaced the parts, and I end up with an extra bow for the soft top.

Glad it's starting to work out. Yeah, those pull pins were driving me nuts vibrating in the wind. I rotated them around a bit and found a spot to tuck the wire in, and they stopped vibrating. I suck at tech stuff, so I do it the old fashioned way and call. Super nice people on the phone, and super nice in person when I went to their HQ.

I'm going through this process myself. I have installed A twill replace a top (RAT) on factory hardware.

I have found the fit to be reasonable but am looking to get the bestop hardware frame. With the adjustment on the bows and front arch support.

I've read that a new bestop top and hardware fit better.
