I've only seen that happen once. It was at a local drag strip on a test and tune night. Some guy went down the track in a pretty nice '68 Firebird. Around half track that hood flew open and smashed the windshield. I talked to him in the pits. He was worried about going home. Turns out it was his wife's car that he snuck out, and he knew she was going to be pissed.
was test driving a really nice (before the test drive) CJ3B and the salesman had opened the hood to show off the Buick V-6 that had been swapped in. So I'd let him close the hood cause I was crawling around under it looking at the drivetrain. Then we hopped into it for a test drive and I'm on Hwy 99 between Everett & Lynwood and I'm doing about 45-50 MPH and the hood comes slamming into the windshield. So I calmly unzip the side window and stick my head out to drive to the shoulder of the road. Windshield was shattered and the hood had a REALLY nice crease in it. The salesman is shitting his pants and asks me how I'm not freaking out, So I tell him that it happens more times than I want to say in the Army because guys forget to use the hood latches.
"Mechanical system"?!? What mechanical system? The idiots designing cars today use electric parking brakes! Wonderful! Fantastic! Outstanding!
You'll get over it.... Really you will. I'll take the electric emergency brake over NO BRAKE....
I prefer my parking brake to not break. What I find amazing and a bit annoying is that it seems that most people do NOT use the parking brake when parking. That got my Dad into trouble a couple of times...
It so bad that I've seen multiple instances of someone trying to drive a car and not understanding why it wouldn't go - parking brake!
I lived in Alaska and you DO NOT use your parking brake/emergency brake during the winter cause if you do there's a 60-75% chance you ain't moving it until spring.
