My jeep tj had a throwout bearing that chattered slightly when letting off the clutch going into gear for the last little bit. Once I Put my body lift on, I started it up for the first time and the whole jeep would shake until I pressed the clutch like 1/4 way and it would go away, but the shifting chatter was still there. The shake was on and off for the past week (since doing the body lift, should be unrelated?)... As of last night, I have headed wheeling and got about 2 hrs away and the throwout bearing started screaming when I downshifted... Just about to pull the tranny now, what should I replace when I am down there, the clutch is only a couple of months old and the pilot bearing is only a couple of weeks old (had to do an engine swap). More importantly, what do you think caused the bearing to go bad...

It was probably on its way out when you replaced the clutch. Didn't the clutch kit you bought come with a new throw-out bearing? Unfortunately, now you have to go through the pain of dropping the transmission.

Unfortunately I also had an issue that I think is the throwout bearing. My jeep was running fine 250 miles on the highway, then on the 250 mile return trip halfway through at a rest stop it would chatter when in first and second gear. The chatter would go away when pressing in the clutch. After getting into high gear and driving back home I didn't experience the issue again. However it being a NSG-370 I was planning on pulling the tranny eventually anyways and getting a reman. These vehicles are getting older now but man having transmission troubles and a check engine at 52k miles is really a kick to my balls so far.

Ah, fun wrenching lol shes already dropped and out... The Clutch kit came with the throw-out bearing, everything looks perfect in there... Going to clean it like crazy throw in the new bearing and see how it goes. Had some driveline vibes and shook some tranny bolts loose and lost one LOL.

Just got it back together and cleaned up, after cleaning and greasing it is absolutely silent and feels great to shift, going to go on a real drive soon to see for sure. Messed around with the old bearing and there was a slight sound with it but for some reason little to no grease (the bearing did not look worn whatsoever and was fully intact)... Maybe I should have looked closer at the luk one before installing...
