Does anyone have any experience with sprintex superchargers on older model Tjs? Im keen on getting some more power outta my 4.0 and am wanting to know more about what goes into supercharging them or even turbocharging. Are turbos or supers hard to tune and what would be better between the two. My TJ is a daily, but also sees the trails every chance I get. But to get to most of the places I wheel, the highways are mountainous and trying to maintain speed going up them is pretty bad. Im running 33s with 3.73 at the moment which will soon change to 35s & 4.56 gears. If anyone with experience can help give some insight that would be really appreciated, cheers

Factory uses 3.73 with 32rh and tiny stock tires. If you want that power you need to gear even lower than factory equivalent to overcome the weight and rolling resistance of larger tires. Use a gear calculator

My buddy and I decided to boost our TJs at the same time. He went with the sprintex and I went turbo. After driving both setups I am glad that I went turbo. The 4.0 has enough low end to get the jeep moving until you hit boost and the lag is not even close to being a problem. Most people who ride with cant tell its turbo until they hear the BOV. Overall I'm very pleased with the turbo but for a daily driver be prepared to have the jeep out of commission for a while. It took me three weeks to get everything done.

Cheers for the response man! Just have a few questions for ya. How did you go about tuning your turbo? I’ve read around a bit and heard that the TJ computers are hard to tune, is that true? And also what year is your jeep? Thanks mate.

Idk if you are familiar with splitsecond piggyback tuners? They work great for any TJ with a three plug ecu. You can go online and download maps to match the injectors and boost levels you are trying to achieve. I definitely dont recommend going above 8psi on a stock headgasket though

So my Jeep is a 2001 but ive turbocharged a 98 also. I always use splitsecond piggybacks and Pontiac GTP injectors that I can get from local junkyards out here in AZ. GTP injectors are 36# and at 12psi boost I typically get above 274whp. My jeep is getting 300whp with my turbo and a few minor mods.

Wow this is excellent mate! Definitely going to look into the split second piggyback. Living in Australia might make sourcing parts a bit difficult, but we’ll see how it goes. Im green when it comes to adding forced induction so its a learning experience for sure. I only plan to run 6psi to start and then go from there.

I would highly recommend having someone in the U.S send you the piggyback and I would also recommend doing a multiple layer head gasket and ARP head studs at the same time. That setup as long as its intercooled can take you to 12psi. You can do 8psi on stock engine without intercooler and 10psi on stock engine with intercooler.

Buying stuff here is mostly a nightmare, I fabricated the whole thing, only thing left is the airbox to replace the pod filter currently keeping crap out.
