This is probably another thread about tire size for TJs, but I could not find a thread specific for my question and setup.
I also would appreciate an input on a decent and affordable suspension and body lift without messing with my drivetrain.
It's pretty stock and I want to make it a little more off-road capable without compromising road stability or making 5th gear useless on the road.
Thanks!

Since it's a Rubi, you have 4.10 gears. On a 5 speed I'd say 33's are undesirable and 35's suck. So probably 33's would be the tallest you'd want to tolerate. Personally I'd want 4.88 for 33's and I wouldn't go larger than stock on 4.10's. I would actually want more gear on stock tires.

04 rubi. with 2017 jkur rims,,,I run 265 70 17 just over 32 an it drives nice on road/off road,,,I Cruze ti phx area 2/3 times a month and to Prescott 2 times a month,,,,run 75 plus no probbbbb.

A 1.25" BL and 1" suspension lift is very good for a 32" build.
a 1.25" BL and 2.5 " suspension lift with a 1" MML is very good for a 33 build.

These builds would not mess with your drivetrain.

Thanks a bunch for the input guys.
I currently have a 265/75/16 tires, which is just about 32". Since the tires are still good, I will stick with them for now. Maybe in the future go for larger tire and regear it.

As for now, I might go for a 2.5" lift suspension.
Is there anything decent and affordable?
Should I buy the complete kit like Rough Country, or is better buy the springs and shocks separated from different brands?
Do I need to replace the motor mount?
Sorry for all the questions, but I want make it right.
Thanks!

You should search under the resource thread for budget boost. It has some great information that I'm planning to follow for my 05 Rubicon.

I have an 03 - 5 speed that was 4:10 - all above are very accurate posts

33’s were pitiful.

32 at the very most and don’t go wider than 10.5 and avoid heavy wheels.

Consider a thumb throttle for off road.

Good work gang.

I run 285/75/16 (slightly under 33) on an 04 rubi 5 speed. It’s fine for me but I live in Louisiana. I can imagine it sucking in the mountains or even hills. The cost of a regear isn’t justifiable unless I go to 35s. 5 gear is barely usable on the highway but I can do 70 in 4th at 3k rpm’s…the top off helps me ignore the engine screaming😂

Jeep geared Rubicon to 4.10 to accommodate 31" tires. Jeep geared non-Rubicon Dana 44'd TJs to 3.73 to accommodate 30" tires.

I have 3.73 gears with 31" tires and a 5 speed tranny. I can't start from a stop in 2nd as easily as I could with 30" tires, and 5th gear doesn't like hills. Does this sound like your experience on 32" tires? If so, I wouldn't recommend jumping up to 33s without a regear. If 32s aren't giving you trouble in 5th on hills, I'd say go for 33s.

Don't buy rough country lift kit. Do some reading on this forum and you'll find some MUCH better performing builds for not much more money.

Welcome to the forum. Prepare to empty every pocket.

The "budget boost" are nothing more than spacers to the springs, mostly for aesthetics, making the ride more stiff and less plushy.
Without replacing the shocks it will not add any travel to your suspension, and they now extra compressed springs will extend your shocks too hard causing premature damage to its internal components. I've been there done that. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I can see wanting to avoid a x-fer case drop but why the objection to a set of $60 MML blocks that can only help?

I have never done it, and I just avoid messing with what engineers spent countless hours on it making sure everything works well together. But if by doing the MML will not require to add other mods and it will benefit while not harming anything else, I may take that route.
