So my Jeep gets parked under this tree from time to time. And in the spring time it drops these red fibers with a sort of pitch to it. It sticks to the soft top. It also looks like if I leave it there it will stain. Its sort of a reddish color.

The only thing I can think to get it off is Dawn and baking soda. And a good scrub brush.

Is there anything harsher I can use? I do have a jug of LA Awesome. But not sure if that will run down and hurt the windows. The pitch is only on the very top of my soft top.

I have a hard top, so I can't offer any real knowledge, only internet knowledge.............

But my first thought was hot water and detergent followed by a hot water rinse.

Well you’re gonna have to be careful about letting anything stronger dry in the sun-

Soaking it with simple green in the shade would be my first move

Heat is one of your most significant factors in cleaning- Think about a steam cleaner or transmission parts cleaner- heat works.

rubbing alcohol will break up and clean pine pitch. just armor all your top immediately afterwards or re-wax if you use it on any painted surfaces

Rubbing alcohol is what I always used after my daily tree climbing sessions as a kid, so that was my first thought as well, but I've never used it on a soft top.

I ended up using the LA Awesome. I have no idea whats in it. But without it I was screwed. Warm water, dawn and a stiff scrub brush did very little.

I mixed the LAA pretty strong in a spray bottle. Like 1/3 or 1/4 to 1. I would spray it. Let it sit. Scrub the shit out of it with the scrub brush. Let it sit again. Scrub it again. Then hose it off.

It took more than 2 sessions of the above to get it off. Had to use a tall step stool.

It did leave a slight lighter color where the pitch was stuck. If you look at it from a taller place you can see a faint pattern of where it was. But its on the very top towards the middle. So you'd have to be like 6'8" to even notice it. ;)

The pitch is only bad in the spring. But still sticks in tiny places throughout the year. Needless to say I won't be parking there again its right in front of my house. So I switched spots with my son. As it will come off regular paint just fine.

So ya. LA Awesome for the win. God I love the dollar store. Ours kicks ass.
