Post your LJ with half doors

Lovin' the half doors but a lot of the pics here don't ID the brand. I've looked at GenRight & JCR, probably others I can't remember. JCR are about $200 more than GR. Way better than tube doors I expect and no doors looks like trouble waiting to happen (I'm prone).

What's the favorite out there, both 'budget' range and the most expensive range? Pro/con of each if you will. I know I'll have to have them. For now all I have is LJ hardtop and door surrounds for when I go topless.

Edit: guess I should ask about favorite tube doors also. I'm not opposed to that route but having used neither..??

With a few exceptions most of the half doors posted in this thread have been MOPAR. They're becoming hard to find and because of that more expensive. If you want those and find a set you'll definitely want to get the interior panels because they're near impossible to find on their own. I have 2 sets but one is missing its panels and I've been looking for about 3 years.

You can also adapt YJ doors to fit a TJ. They seem to be more plentiful and it's a pretty straightforward job.

Anyone have any thoughts on the bestop element doors with skins? They also have a door bag organizer thing that could be handy. They are pretty expensive though.

I'm not sure about Bestop doors but I have their soft uppers. They are good quality and fit and work very well. I also have a set of MOPAR uppers. They are better but not by much. They have a Velcro strip to help hold the window in place while you're zipping it up but that's about it. I think the main way to ID which is which is that the Bestops are grey on the inside and the MOPARs are black.

I also have storage bags by both and they are quite different. The Bestop bag is simple by comparison, light and easy to use. The material is canvas like, they are well made and 2 soft top windows fit in them fine. The MOPAR bags are much better quality. They are bigger and have soft floppy dividers inside that provide 5 separate compartments to keep the windows separate. They also have the "Jeep" logo on one side.

When I take one bag with me ... its the Bestop bag. One thing to consider with a storage bag is that with one or both uppers in it you can lash the handle to something so that they aren't flying around inside while you drive, are off road, etc. It's much safer.

Are these it (look like the least expensive option) or are the Element another product? I'm assuming these are a complete door and pockets could be added?

No those are the soft doors and lowers only.

These are the element doors. You have to buy the base tube door.

Then you can buy the skin and have it color matched or leave it black.

There are also these storage bags available for it which you can mount inside or outside apparently.

Then there are the uppers.

Again this is a very expensive option IMO and I can't see how close to $1000 new for that set up is any better than some nice oem half doors which are available on car-part.com in my area for around $500.

Thanks for clarifying that. Bestop in general confuses me on what is needed for each configuration, which header bar for which top, NX, safari, etc, etc. (I'm not after a full soft top).

Soft lowers might be all I'm after in the end, since the LJ is garaged daily, unless I'm in camp, at which point I might just buy a full or partial cover for overnight and a spiderwebshade or such. I am considering a solid shade rather than mesh for rain however, since my electronics are not waterproof (bluetooth stereo and cage mounted GMRS radio). Might have to navigate Bestop for that option and mounting hardware.

Looks like I have come full circle. Got half doors for my TJ shortly after I posted this thread and just recently picked up an Lj and swapped all my parts over.

Silver doors don’t look half bad IMO but still I’m gonna paint them to match

Amature question. Where do half doors come from. Did they come from a specific type on new TJ back in the day. I have half doors on a 2,5. I thought they only come with low budget 2.5's

They were part of a soft top system with the half uppers that matched the soft top… the half uppers have the zipper windows… some people like them when they are either trail riding or off roading for protection… jeeps that came with a soft top had half doors…hardtops have full doors..

That's the first time I've heard that. My 2004 LJ came with a soft top only and full doors. When ordered with a soft top you get none of the parts required for a rear windshield wiper and that's what I have. My build sheet also states it came with "GCFS - Full Metal Doors w/Roll-up Windows" as Standard Equipment. Maybe it's a regional thing.

You can or could also get full doors.. depends on how much money you wanted to fork out when you were buying and or building it from the factory… didn’t think I needed to explain the whole process

Again, this might be a regional thing. According to the build sheet, my 2004 LJ was built to Canadian Market Specifications (Code YACS) Ontario Province Code (675S) and came with full doors (GCFS) as standard equipment. That makes sense ... it's cold up here. It doesn't say anything about hard or soft tops. In Canada it's pretty unusual for them to have come without a hard top, no doubt because of the weather.

According to sales brochures there various standard and optional features and packages and you could basically dial in your order. I'm well aware of how it worked back then and now too. No explanation needed.
