Greetings, new member here.
I have a 1997 TJ that I bought new in January of 1997. It now has about 125,000 miles and has always been a great and dependable vehicle.
The other day I tried to start it and I noticed the the CEL did not come on when I turned the key but instead the Check Gauges light came on. The vehicle cranks but will not start. I called a friend that was a Jeep mechanic that worked at the dealership back then and he concludes the ECM is bad. Turning the key does not energize the power down relay and the ignition switch is good. Tried unplugging the the crank sensor and still no CEL. The scanner does not communicate. It is possible to energize the relay by applying 12v to the wire that the PCM uses for that function. Anyway, I'm having trouble finding an ECM for my Jeep. Anyone have any recommendations on where i might find one?

You have 2 choices

Find a used one they are everywhere and every jeep parts dismantler will have one

Or what I recommend is calling Mark at @Wranglerfix and talk to him over the phone. Then talk to his daughter and give her money and in 2 or 3 days a computer will be on your doorstep

@geebo Give me a call at 866-888-7710 to discuss in further detail.

Thanks for the call back, @Wranglerfix. I have the ECM pulled and will hopefully get it out to you tomorrow.
I'm wondering about the PCM Supercharge option. If my Jeep was running fine prior to the ECM failure what would the extra service do for me?
And does the ECM come back ready to plug in and go?
Thanks again,
George
