Post your LJ with half doors

My buddy has a body shop, and I prepped and he painted them. I'm very happy how they came out.

Im glad I have half doors, and I wonder if there is much less half doors out there. They seem to be a fairly hot item on this site. Living in Florida it's real nice to be wide open, and they pop right off nicely when your on the go.

They are a hot item and to make sure that someone else doesn't "pop" them off and run away with them I detached the lock rods. When I leave my LJ unattended, I lock the half doors with the key. If anyone is watching it looks kind of foolish when the entire cockpit is wide open. The point is though ... you can reach in but you can't unlock the latch because it's disconnected. If they can't be opened it's almost impossible to steal them.

Does that mean that you only open them from the outside

Yes. He's disconnected the rod between the inside lock and the mechanism. This means they can only be locked or unlocked with the key. So, if you're inside, you had to unlock the door, and unless you reached over the door with your key and locked them, they remain unlocked until you get out and lock them from the outside with the key. This sounds like a very good anti-theft measure to me! The only downside I can think of is dealing with the passenger side, too. You can unlock, hop in and reach over to unlock the passenger door. However, you could throw them the key, or if give them a spare.

I can open the doors from inside and out.

From the outside the door handles and locks work as normal.

From the inside I can pull the handles and the doors open as normal. I disconnected the lock buttons ("LOCK" printed on them in white) by separating the rod from the plastic clip at the handle end. The lock buttons now don't do anything.

I can't lock the doors from the inside. It's outside only and only with the key. I can no longer open the doors, push the lock button to lock them and then shut the doors. I don't miss this feature at all. It's the same as how the tailgate works; shut the door then lock it from the outside.

Could add electric lock actuators only operated by a key fob. Then both doors and tailgate can lock and unlock at same time, any time.

I have them on my full doors and tailgate.

Excellent idea, and explaination

I like the lock rod idea except something itches in my brain to have a non functioning feature.

I got a set of these. They take a key like a wheel lock, and the black portion spins on it if you try vice grips. A determined and prepared thief could unbolt the hinges from the tub but this should encourage most to move on to an easier target.

That would work nicely, along with disabling the lock buttons. I've used actuators on trailers but have no clue about ones for doors. Are the actuators battery powered or did you have to run wiring between the body and doors to activate them?

I like the "spin" feature on those. I bought a similar set (also McGard) that didn't spin and I could remove them with channelocks.

You run power to them.

I used these

Blaine uses Dakota digital magnum shooters to run power to the door, much cleaner.
