112dB's 2002 Sahara Stereo Install Saga

Something old, something new. I went with 5.25 coaxials in the back to help retain the stock appearance as much as possible. I was able to re-use the stock grills once I added a small spacer to account for the new driver's excursion.

The speakers use the sound bar as their enclosure, so it made sense to line it as much as possible with dynamat.

And then stuff it with polyfill

IMG_5322.jpg

The dome light also shares the sound bar cavity and it's not airtight. I fixed this by patching the hole with a combination of glue and plexiglass.

And then I put a layer of dynamat on the back to help seal everything off.

The end result is a sound bar that looks stock but sounds much much better.

Very cool, thanks for sharing this!

I have a killer sound system going in mine shortly with an Audiotec Fischer Helix V Eight DSP, custom made tweeter pods, and BLAM speakers all around.

I'm of course looking to upgrade again.

I'd like to find a wideband 2.5 or 3 to sit on the dash in a pod/mount. I don't see a 5.25 (130 mm) midrange on the Blam site however. What speakers are you using?

@skrelnik, do you remember which speakers I was using? It's been so long I can't even remember anymore.

You had the 5.25" BLAM 130 RS, but you did not use their tweeter. The tweeter was from Micro Precision.

I just bought and installed the 130 RC's in the Jeep last night, but you could go for the 130 RS from this place. I ordered my 130 RC's this past Saturday and I received them yesterday - from Great Britain!!! Prices are cheaper than US prices as well. These play loud since they are 2 ohm and pretty much, IMHO, the best value for the money spent on this brand.

If you want to go bigger on the dash, you can look into Audiofrog's GS (cheaper) or GB (expensive) line-up. They have 2.5" that would work, and you could buy speaker pods off of Ebay from the German pod guy.

Has anyone successfully put 6.5's in the dash?

Just not worth it since it would require a lot of hacking. A deeper sounding 5.25" woofer would be the solution, one that plays lower frequencies, well. Money spent on a specific speaker for your application would be more efficient. Jeep is what it is, and you can make a good sounding system without going nuts...and if you go nuts it is still a loud and noisy Jeep.

Here is a company called Jehnert, they have a 2" tweeter and 5.25" low range woofer that may fit what you are looking for. Prices are solid as well.

Another 5.25" option from Ground Zero

I'm looking at the morel 2.5 middler/twiddler/tweeter thing plus their MW5 as a possibility. The MW5 is expensive though.

I just started 3D printing things so I plan to play around a lot with pod designs, etc.

I just noticed that Blam had a twiddler thing as well, with better frequency response ( not that I can hear beyond 19kHz any more...) The pricing on the Relax 5.25 components is hard to beat. I'd like to get as much sound on top pf the dash rather than under it as possible.

And yeah jeeps are noisy, but sometimes I like to park it and just listen.

The Helix cannot be bridged, can it? I really need 6+1 channels and the V Eight DSP would seem to fit the bill if it were bridgeable.

I thought about this as well. Kicker has a snowman 2" + tweeter combo that seems like it could be very interesting. I now have a cage in my TJ that includes A-pillars and an across the dash bar, which makes it a bit more awkward to put the snowman there but a tweeter will be more stealthy, so I may stick to components. I just like the idea of getting more of the midrange up on the dash as the grills in front of mids in the dash act as a mechanical LPF.

Morel is a good alternative, solid brand, and would be similar with the other brands I mentioned.

What software and brand of 3D printer do you have? I have started to look into that...

BLAM's prices are great through Incartec, I ordered multiple components through that store and it has been rock solid every time.

I hear you about parking and listening, that is why I went all out on my tweeters, have you looked into Micro Precision? Here is a link to the web-site where you can see some literatire/specs, and a link to the instagram page with amazing pictures of the speakers.

The Helix cannot be bridged, can it? I really need 6+1 channels and the V Eight DSP would seem to fit the bill if it were bridgeable.

Audiotec Fischer has three line-ups, Match, Helix and Brax. Brax is high-end so we can skip that. Match is their plug and play line-up, and those amps are generally not bridgeable and better for connecting to the stock head unit and plug and play speakers.

Helix is their middle line-up and they have awesome solutions, the amplifier with built-in DSP. Generally the M, C and D line-ups are bridgeable, while the V and P line-ups are not. If you need 7 channels, then you are correct, the V Eight could be the answer, a cheaper solution, and what's in my Jeep is the Match PP86 DSP. Or you could go for a multiple amp set-up, the M Four DSP or M SIX DSP and then run a secondary amplifier.

M4 language:

Maximum flexibility

Even the internal amplifier section of the M FOUR DSP is extremely variable – it can either be operated in 4-channel mode or, thanks to its bridging capability, can also be configured as a 3-channel or even 2-channel amplifier.

But that's not all – in connection with the six pre-amplifier outputs, the sound system can be expanded in a diverse manner and upgraded to up to 10 channels.

In combination with other amplifiers of the M series (M ONE X, M ONE, M FOUR or M SIX), there are more than enough possibilities to expand the number of power channels.

This makes complex, yet affordable and, above all, space-saving multi-channel systems with enormous performance possible

I've got a pair of hogtalare speakers hooked up to a record player. It's incredible.

I've had a Creality Ender 3v2 for almost 2 years. I assembled it a year ago and finally started using it last night. I had to replace a plastic part on the extruder right from the start as the plastic one that came with it broke. the metal replacement works great.

Software - Cura (slicer), autocad fusion 360 (free) for development - I havent done anything beyond install the fusion 360 though. Thingiverse is great.

If you think audio is a rabbit hole of minute details and wasted time and money, you haven't seen anything. 3d printing is nuts. It's probably a good idea to create a 3d printing thread if there isn't one already. There's a lifetime of youtube on the subject.

yeah... I'm about to drop some money I think... The one set I was looking at are $650 stateside. I'm going to start with the cheaper set though because I haven't yet learned the lesson of buy once cry once.

I think the Arc Audio Ps8-50 may be a future upgrade. I'm somewhat familiar with Helix, but the ARC seems to be a better solution for me. I haven't had time to overthink it yet though. Their A-10 / A-12 subs seem decent too.

Moving my tweeters up was a great improvement. I'm thinking of trying a wideband tweeter/mid like the Blam LFR50 to get even more frequencies out of those dash locations.

Mind you, I like the idea but the more the freq upstairs the more they will beam to one side. It has to do with our hearing. This is very non scientific speaking.
