What am I missing or misinterpreting from the chart at https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/chartsguides/m/mgr-f890633.pdf

For the later design Dana 35 like I am assuming the TJ uses it says its 26 spline pinion shaft is 1.376 and the Dana 44 pinion shaft diameter is 1.375, also a 26 spline design.

I had no idea they were that close and that it appears from that chart that the Dana 35 pinion shaft is .001 larger than the Dana 44's is. Something's not making sense to me.

There was a magazine article years ago that gave a good comparison between the two. The general consensus was that the strength difference between the two ring and pinions was the difference of one ratio. For example a Dana 35 4.10 was the same as a Dana 44 4.56. But the difference in size of bearings and their relative spacing the Dana 44 is much stronger.

Thank you but I am only focused on the pinion gear diameter comparison between the two at this point.

.376 could be a typo. which part is baffling, that they could be the same or that they'd be off by .001? It's been a while but when shopping for pinion yokes I seem to remember them taking the same part.

Well here you go. Dana 35 4.1 vs Dana 44 4.55. Head size is similar. The Dana 35 pinion shaft is a couple thousand bigger to make use of the more modern bearings compared to the 44. I will get some more pics of the bearings and stuff tonight.

Yokes are basically the same other than the 44 has a longer through hole. The Dana 30 and the Dana 35 used the same yoke other than there are two different seals through the years so their is a different yoke for the 35 because of that.
