Just got my re-geared Jeep back!

I just got mine back, too. 3.07 to 4.56. WHAT. A. DIFFERENCE. Though the higher revs are going to take some time to get used to.

How bout 31" tyres with 5.13 gears? I gained 5th gear again but lost the 1st gear. Now on 35's all is well again. 🤘

If you guys don't mind, throw some posts up with costs of said re gears. My newest tj has the 307s., 33s, 4.0. It'll flat roll out on the interstate lol

Why do you assume tire size difference percentages are directly proportional to gear ratio difference percentages?

Because of math?

Because when I went from 4.10 gears and 28" tires to 4.88 gears and 33" tires I was now doing the same RPMs at 70 mph (3000) as I was before the changes.

However, as was alluded to earlier, me going from 4.10 gears and 28" tires to 4.88 gears and 33" tires brings me back to the factory parameters, but it doesn't compensate for the larger tires' increased weight and rolling resistance. So if I was to bump it up just a little bit more to the next available gear ratio (in this case 5.13) that extra 5% change would help compensate for the increased tire weight and rolling resistance with a negligible change in RPMs at highway speeds. Or when pulling a trailer.

Four-cylinder TJs are much more sensitive (and responsive!) to proper gearing based on tire size compared to six-cylinder TJs.

When changing your gear ratios, now's the time to add some sort of traction aiding devices to one or both of your axles. It doesn't really add to the cost of the gear change other than the cost of the traction aiding devices themselves. Not to start a locker vs. limited slip debate (please let's not), but if you're not into hard-core off-roading, consider at least a true-trac (a limited slip) in the rear (I'd put one in the front too personally). I've got them front & rear in my truck, and they're invisible when daily driving, but they make a huge difference in the snow or mild off-roading.

I've got $1,800 in parts alone, but I did a few other things at the same time too, but not much.
Had my speedo gear corrected and my reverse lights switch changed. Needed some parts to put my front drive shaft back in/together also.
Being a 96 actually, I had a AMC 35 with a broken off gear flopping around in my transfer case, so that did a little damage.
It was pricy, but worth it.

That’s the way mine was when I bought it & those 3.07 gears were terrible! I’ll have to dig around & try to find what the regear cost me, but I did more than change the gears. While they were in there working I had them put in chromoly axle shafts, True Track limited slips & new front hubs so I probably really can’t tell you the cost of the actual regear. Of course, it depends on what gears you choose
I attached some “before & after” data of the 3.07 gears vs. 4.56 gears.

I have a 03 sport 5spd that had 3.73's and 33's from the PO and I just recently got it back from the shop and I had 4:88 gears installed and its so much better! I had the shop remove my Dana 35 and put in a Dana 44 housing and disc brakes swapped over from the Dana 35. They also put in a ARB rear locker new chromo shafts as well. Since I had them do some work for me I had them install the compressor and hook up my front locker with my switch panel for all. Also had my Kilby gas tank skid installed at the same time. I usually do my own work but gears I cannot do, so thats why I had all the other work done since its there. Now the jeeps feels so good with regear I cannot wait to some 35's

I go back and forth between the TJ with a stick & 4.56 and a different TJ with an automatic & 3.55s. The difference is "slightly noticeable."
