Having trouble removing one of my windshield wiper arms

As the title says I absolutely cannot remove the driver side windshield wiper arm. I’m trying to get under my cowl and I was able to remove the passenger side arm with ease, no problems at all. I pulled the clip on the driver side and this thing will not budge. I’ve tried a ball ram tool and I got nowhere with that, I’m afraid I might not even have the right tool for the job.
When I bought the Jeep I noticed there were plier teeth marks on the arm where someone seemed to have trouble in the past.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, I’m completely lost with this.

Same advice as with anything that's stuck: heat + pbblaster. I had to use a screwdriver to get some leverage to get one of mine off.


also, "in before somebody says 'penetrating oil XYZ is far superior'." You do you boo.
 
I would first ensure that the pivoting fastener that keeps the wiper arm attached to the rotating assembly splines is moved sufficiently to allow the arm to slide off the splines.
IF the arm does not slide off the splines; then its rusted onto the splines OR the arm has been jammed onto the splines causing a galling affect which makes the removal much more difficult.
As far as what Hear posted above concerning the use of PB Blaster; there are penetrants far better that creep into the affected area such as Kroil, Mouse Milk, and Liquid Wrench or you can make your own using equal parts of ATF and Acetone.

Thanks for the tips. I did try pbBlaster as it was all I had on hand. I have a heat gun so would that be a viable method, to try and lubricate and then put the heat gun onto the arm where it’s connected to the rotating assembly?

I noticed the arm is so stuck on there that even the bit with the splines tries to come off with the arm. The dealership I purchase the Jeep from had actually just put a new coat of paint on, so don’t think it’s rust, but rather jammed on.

If that were the case, which is most likely, would heat and lubricant still be my best bet?

Did you pivot the arm away from the windshield? From what I remember, that clip can only be pulled with the blade pivoted up.

Yes sir I pulled the arm up, pulled the clip, and the passenger side arm came off like butter, no problems at all
Edit: it’s the driver side that won’t budge. It feels as if it’s welded on, it’s just not giving no matter what I do.

When we say heat we typically mean something like an MAP torch. Or that's what I mean, anyway. But I also use substandard penetrating oil so you should ignore me.

Oh dang you’re talking about straight fire lol. I wouldn’t have thought of that because it’s a little tricky to get the flame in the right spot to not damage anything.

Disclaimer I’m a 23 y/o with very little mechanical experience. Picked up my first Jeep with the intentions of learning via trial and error and of course from advice from the Jeep veterans of America.

But back to the point I’m not quite sure where to direct the flame. Perhaps I could provide an image and someone could edit the photo, highlighting points of interest and what not.

Edit: I’ve included a video of my problem if I haven’t provided a decent description. If possible can you give me a visual reference of where you would apply heat?
 
I had the same issue with my back wiper. I sprayed it with Liquid Wrench several times and let it soak. I tapped it, "gentlty" several days in a row. About the fifth day it came loose.

My suggestions above were alternatives and were not meant to get your panties in a bunch.
PB Blaster is not as good as the advertisements indicate

If you thought my reply was me getting my panties in a bunch then I don't know what to tell you. I've had perfectly fine results with PB blaster is all.

Maybe your panties are in a bunch. I've posted twice generically that my choice is thought to be lousy by some here. You've posted twice to directly tell me that you don't approve of my choice. Like I said, you do you boo.

To the OP, just put that torch on the whole thing. Move it around, try to get the head "under" the head of the wiper arm. Then I like to spray <PENETRATING OIL OF YOUR CHOOSING> right into the space where they meet. I read somebody on the CJ forum talk about how heating it first and then spraying can help draw the oil in as the metal cools. I'm not sure if that has any merit or not, but if I have trouble and oil alone doesn't solve it I normally try heat + oil as opposed oil + heat.

spray it as much as you need, there are no rules other than "my daddy always did it this way so it has to be the right way." For some known trouble bolts on my old CJ, I would spray them several times a day several days in advance of working on them. And even that doesn't always work. It's as much art as it is science.
 
The way I've had the best luck with stuck wiper arms is to pull out on the arm with a firm steady pressure, and tap gently around the edges of the end of the wiper arm where it goes over the stud, with a small tack hammer or something similar. Be careful because when it lets go it will be sudden and depending on how hard you're pulling you may stumble if not prepared. I helped a coworker who was having the same problem on his Jeep and when it let go i ended up cutting the side of my hand pretty decently.
 
have seen a slide hammer used to remove a wiper arm before. penetrating oil of your choice over several days should help if rusted.
