What are some good options for an overhaul shop. Looking to have my long block remanufactured. Bad rod knock. Don’t have time to do the rebuild myself. I can pull the engine and reinstall it.

Looking at S and J engines. Any feedback welcomed and appreciated.

That's going to depend on your local market. If you intend to have your original block rebuilt, which would be my choice, you're going to need to keep it local. Where I live we have no problem finding competent guys/shops to rebuild, but I have no idea about your area. I suggest asking around, maybe throwing that question on FBook.

If you're willing to go the reman route, I suggest looking for stock rebuilds only with the best warranty. I have no opinion of S & J, but have seen decent stuff from Jasper Engines. IDK if they have 4.0s

Ok thanks for that. I prefer to have mine rebuilt. I don’t mind shipping it if it’s for the right shop. Local is obviously better though.

I was in a similar spot when my rod finally went through my block. Personally, I bought a used engine, did a RMS, oil pan gasket, and slapped it in. For $300 and a couple of days of work I got an engine, how many km no clue. But I now have a bunch of spare trail parts and brought the engine to the scrapper and got $80. Obviously, if you can afford new that is probably the way to go, but don't rule out used especially being in the states there is probably a bunch of deals to be had!
