Purchased a 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ w/ 4.0L couple of months ago, and have noticed that the engine does not sit parallel to the ground. The back of the engine is much lower than the front. This hasn't caused any problems until recently and now it appears that the fan is no longer sitting correctly in the radiator cowling. Is this a known issue with TJ engines?

It probably has a 1 inch engine lift and they didn’t adjust the location of the fan shroud to match.

More info, the original owner said the engine is a rebuilt Jasper engine due to thrown rod. Last week the rear drive shift came into contact with the exhaust pipe while driving. Had to limp home and have since removed the dual exhaust. Now, noticing the fan is contacting the top of the cowling. At first the fan wouldn't move, but now it's scraping. The bottom of the fan is set in the cowling with no issue there. Will post some pics.

Yes, thats part of my concern. Pics attached. Fan and radiator shroud. Dual exhaust pipes/damage. Engine angle with level.

No, I only took it out to replace the exhaust.

If the fan is sticking up that high above the shroud when the center skid is installed, then you have something really ridiculous going on. It is happening either at the motor mounts or at the transmission mount. Or maybe a bit of both.

Okay. I haven't taken it out of the garage since doing the exhaust and the skid plate is still off. Wasn't tracking that the skid plate puts pressure on bottom of the trans mount and could correct the issue with the fan. Will install the skid plate back on and check it. Thanks!

Yeah, the skid supports the transmission, when removed the trans needs to have a jack or some type of blocks under to support it.

You do need to look into why everything shifted the DS into the exhaust though... What is the condition of the trans mount/bushing?
