Hello everyone, Ben here. Thanks for your time in advance:) I'm a first-time poster, long-time lurker so bear with me.
I've been preparing for a 6-month overlanding roadtrip in 3 weeks; starting in Indiana, going North thru Michigan/Wisconsin, and darting around everywhere out West for the first time. I will mainly be staying out in the wilderness (National Parks, Nat'l Forests, BLM areas, etc.) I'm still fairly new into wheeling; I got my TJ a little over a year and a half ago (see below) and I live in NE Indiana, so not a ton of opportunities.
I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are for some of the best locations to check out for some moderate off-roading, overlanding home bases, and just the cool little things to check out along the way (small-towns, abandoned areas, honey holes, etc.)? I freakin' love hiking, fishing, kayaking, meeting new people, photography/videography; so if anyone wants to show me around their town, I would love to check it out! Seriously, don't hesitate to get in touch because this will be the longest solo trip I've ever been on being 21 years young. I hope to make traveling around the world a full-time passion, so I really do appreciate the inputs you have:) Get Jiggy Wit It✌️

I've gravitated toward the areas south of Moab, to get away from the lunacy there. The Abajo Mtns., Elk Ridge, Peavine Corridor, Beef Basin, Comb Ridge, Valley of the Gods were still out of the way last time I was over there.

I checked out some of the videos from Comb Ridge and it’s looks awesome out there!

Last time I was there was a few years back. It was still wide open and empty. Lots of dispersed isolated camping spots along Butler Wash and Comb Wash. Some traffic in the day, but totally quiet at night. No idea what's happening there these days.

Where do you plan on heading in Michigan?

I'm gonna be spending some time on the Muskegon River the first couple weeks with a group of friends. Next I plan to hit Huron/Manistee National Forest, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and there's a scenic highway I wanna cruise while the leaves are changing in the Lower Pen. still. Then the UP is next, with Isle Royale Nat'l Park and some waterfalls also on the list. I need to find more places in UP, but I'm super excited to revisit some small fishing towns.

I'll have to let you know if I head through.(y)
