Help, I'm stuck in my driveway trying to remove the EVAP canister from my 2004. I have everything unbolted and I cant get the 2 lines off as shown in the FSM (pg 25-18).

Is there a special tool I need to un-clamp the lines? The smaller line seems to have a clip of some type that I can move, but no luck removing.

Any help right now would be greatly appreciated. I'm only removing this to clean up some surface rust to paint before it's FF next month.

Thanks

I wish I could help with that question, I'm only sympathizing here with the job you are in the middle of. I have a 2004 too and that cannister hidden inside the right-rear corner is a real PITA to get to. I almost ripped it out from frustration a few times while working around it.

Jerry, thanks for the reply. I did figure out how to remove the smaller line, the bigger one has me banging my head on the fender. I'll keep plugging away.

This is the one I can't figure out and I know it can't be this difficult to disconnect

If you end up removing the evap system, you can always get an HPTuner and disable it as well so the check engine light stays off FYI. The latest picture, The rectangular collar needs to be pried away with a pick which should allow you to disconnect the hose.

I'll keep UNplugging away.

FIFY.

You may have already tried this, but as you press the release for the plug press the two connections together first, then pull apart.

I think dirt gets gets under the button and makes it tough to push in far enough to get the fingers to swing back far enough.
I've used something like a straw cut in half and slide them into the fitting on each side of pipe while pressing fitting together, then push button and pull to remove as usual.

@Tldelaney thanks for replaying. With the communist state I live in I'm leaving all smog stuff alone for now. But will keep in mind.

@JMT thanks for fixing that for me, made me laugh after this "project" which everything becomes on this Jeep. And I haven't gotten to what I need to do yet.

I did get it out finally and of course it wasn't as difficult as it needed to be as JMT said you do press the 2 connectors together (think horse shoe) the pull it back and it disconnects. Magic  The problem I had that was messing me up was the 2 points to push were on the opposite side facing the bracket.

I'm attaching some pictures with some notes on them, so hopefully it will help someone in the future. I'm learning as I'm going with this trying to figure things out. Thanks again to everyone who responded and if my pictures are unclear or need editing for more information, please let me know.

Time to go clean up and have a drink or two....

P.S. the last picture is why I'm in there. Trying to stop things before they get to far.

@RINC the Big Dig the project that was outdated before it started  If your ever in this area let me know and dinner is on me!

@Thunderhead I hope I don't have any lights when I get this back together, had none to start with just trying to clean up the rust before the salt crap starts again,

Hey all, I'm proposing Hijacking this thread for my own purposes. I have a jeep I bought off a kid and he pulled all this EVAC stuff out of the jeep. He was trying to install a GenRight gas tank, and he also put competition corners on the back.

Do people pull these thing off ever? I'm sure they do. I see lots of TJs out there without them, but what are they doing with all the lines? What lines are absolutely needed?

A retrofit Schematic would be AWESOME if anyone has one.
