Rocky Mountain Billy Goat Build

Sometimes you gotta pay to play.

I got bent over on shipping too, no reach around no whispering in my ear.

Yeah...I thought VERY hard about it. Its just ridiculous. I'll probably regret not doing it, but at this point, the UCF extra clearance isn't limiting my jeep, anyway. Totally need a driver mod to get to the next step.

I had the last bumper in my cart and did the same thing. I talked myself in circles but decided I should to spend on gears and fixing my exhaust first instead of the best bumper money can buy...

... by the time I was ready to say "ahhh, screw it" it was out of stock and my decision was made for me.

If you can weld I feel like there are other comparable options with separate crossmembers if the Savvy UA is out of stock

What a lot of crossmember/skid combinations miss when compared to Savvy is that the Savvy aluminum skid is bolted to the Savvy crossmember with about 10 bolts. Not that a DIY fab project can't also do that. I just rarely see it being done.

The V shape of the Savvy skid is also a detail that I don't think many understand. When the Jeep lands on a rock, the weight tries to flatten the V shaped skid, forcing it into spreading the frame rails. Which can't happen due to the crossmember, body mounts, etc.

Savvy is a very strong and resilient design, that most others don't have.

Your logic and reasoning mumbo jumbo won’t work on me. I know you’re just being a savvy fan boy

This has always been my observation with the custom/diy/etc crossmembers. The integration to the skid seems to be critically important for the strength. I definitely didn't want to spend the money on a midarm right now, but with Savvy being an unknown going forward - there's not a lot of choice.

I had an T-case skid kit in my cart, but I just couldn't pull the trigger on it with 156 dollars in shipping charges

Yesterday I paid $280 for shipping when purchasing a Savvy bumper and T-case skid. As @Apparition said, you have to pay to play. With the platform getting older, more expensive, and harder to source parts for, this is the last TJ/LJ I'll build. Unless of course there's some extreme circumstance. :(

This is a good observarion and exactly why I'll pay to play. I've had two flat steel skids over the years and both bent. Across three Savvy skids, I've never bent one. The "V" design is more important than just extra clearance on the sides!

I don't have a need for a mid arm now, but this same thought has been rattling around in my head!

I wouldn’t worry too much. It seems they’re making small quantities as they have time and as long as they keep selling out 4-5 at a time they’ll keep production going

It took them what, two days to sell out of the UAS, bumpers, rockers they listed? I’ll probably grab a UAS next go round along with some aluminum corners. The last set of sliders produced was only like 2-3 months ago.

I recently developed an interesting popping sound and figured it was a bolt that I didn't torque correctly or something. I could never reproduce it until finally today and found that my front right lower shock eyelet was popping and shifting in the mount. The spherical bearing wore out and fell apart as the whole shock can shift onto/off the misalignment spacers.

Fortunately I can deal with all this soon with the midarm. I went ahead and grabbed some better quality replacements so I can just replace all these while they are out for the midarm anyway. I also need to get a spare set of cheap shocks too, so I can service these/send them out to get tuned - which I will do after the midarm install. If anyone has good recommendations for some cheap shocks I can use in place of 11"-12" shocks I am all ears (and don't say Ranchos :p).
