Warn winches to look for used

I've been thinking about starting this exact thread for a while, good move.

Now that I know what the I means, is there any advantage to an integrated solenoid beyond ease of install? I've been wanting to relocate mine to near the battery just to minimize the exposure of always-hot cable but an integrated solenoid would take my freedom to do that.

The I series just makes for cleaner packaging but the cost is not being able to upgrade from solenoids to a contactor.

What would be the benefit of a contactor vs solenoid? Packaging?

Contactors are a bit more reliable and better sealed from the elements. Unfortunately with Warn not currently producing the 99760 upgrade kit there not as clean to integrate into the winch.

In case anyone is looking,

I have a Warn XD9000i sitting in my garage. Functions perfectly fine though misplaced the remote when I moved and also cosmetically needs TLC (I began to remove it but didn’t get as far as painting). I can test it with the controller off my current Warn. I’m located in Southern Oregon 97501 though am willing to ship it.

Here’s my post:

I have a 9.5ti sitting on my bench to rebuild and the $150 of solenoids if anyone is looking to take on a project.

Remind me why you moved from the 9.5ti to the M8000? I tried to look through your build but couldn't find it. Weight difference?

9.5ti needed a rebuild and I wasn't able to find the parts for a long time. I also really like that the box can be relocated, which cleans up the front bumper a good bit (granted, I haven't moved the box yet). I do miss the line speed of the 9.5ti.

Need to find you a HS9500 non I.

I just went through this with an XD. In my case I spent some time trying to get the solenoid pack working, but decided it was far more reliable to replace it with a solid state contactor. Just be advised if you upgrade the contactor, you also have to upgrade the remote ( 5 pin vs 3 pin). By the time it was done, even with the new contactor pack, I'd spent less than an M8000 would cost, and was happy with the results. FWIW, @Blackjack was a fantastic resource for help!

Yep early 8274. You will want to make sure the brake is free and for 550 it would be nice if the motor runs.
