I unknowingly duplicated a prior thread, Chris your call if it needs deleted. Sure got my attention.

The driver of the truck, a Kingman, Az resident, was fatally injured when this drop hitch broke and the recoil of the strap pulled it straight into his windshield.

Never hook to a ball- it is not designed for the stress of recovery.

Recovery points are there for a reason, they often have movement or curves to prevent stress.

I know you experienced trail guys know this and more , just posting for the same reason they have church every Sunday- people need reminded.

Stay safe out there,
Andy

I watched Matt’s off-road and recovery earlier where he was trying to winch a Ram truck buried to its frame. I noticed he put the hood up on the truck, I’m guessing it was to be a potential shield.

That is very sad and ridiculous at the same time.....
Someone should have intervened before that could happen.

Well said.

I can practically see it - guy jumps in his truck to go help, sees the hitch sticking and out and throws the strap on as that is the easiest thing to reach, maybe the strap was kinetic also.

This leads me to ask- do we have a good recovery thread/tutorial?

I saw guys do that once and now I realize why, good post.

I don't know if there is one in the Winch, Recovery Gear & Communications section or not.

I had a Power Point that I did when I was still in the Army on recovery procedures. I'll see if I can find it.

Good thing you weren’t a Marine, it’d be full of dick drawings.
