Montana TJ Unlimited parts magnet

Positive only so far. I am not running the center hood catch currently. Because I have the PSC dual cooler and the stock center catch rubs it. So I removed it and run this style which cannot come undone at highway speeds. That is the only reason they are on there. I probably could have made the center part work. But didn't want to.

Good to hear. Those have to have a key to unlock them right? Have you found that annoying at all?

Not annoying yet, I leave the key hanging on the dash these are not to stop theft. There is a little key. I have had no issues yet. They are stainless, but I give them a shot of silicone spray periodically. They can be adjusted to where the hood has no play, but isn't too tight. My only fear was the hood opening at highway speeds, and did not want to have a metal latch that can rub my coolers.

So, I figured metal latches that are pinned through.

I was greeted by more Jeep parts when I got home. I didn't even get a delivery notice. 🙂

I'm gonna open them, hope they're not scratched.

And the huge boxes are just oem rear TJ flares. I'm not sure I'm feelin the rear MCE's.

You may have covered this earlier, but do you have any thoughts positive or negative on those hood latches?

I'm running them also because I my hood always fluttered like it was ready for take off anytime I got over 75 on the highway combined with wind gust. Took me a bit to get use to the look but otherwise their fine. I cut the cable off.

I like it.

On to the transmission stuff.

I dropped my tires/wheels off at our local les Schwab. I talked to a person I think I can trust. I usually do my tires at my buddy's. But I don't feel like it. What could possibly go wrong......

cross your fingers for me my 4 thread readers!

I will add that mickey Thompson boxes wheels like they mean it. I was very pleased, almost everything I order is destroyed by UPS or FedEx. And these made it great. very guarded packaging.

Time to get cozy in the interior. I have both the single cupholder shorty console. Or the dual and retain my current console.

What say the talking heads of TJF? Dual, or single. I like the 1 cause it's so clean looking. But 2 is nice I guess. It let's the GF spill something also.......

I hated only having the single cup holder. Either when it was just me and my daughter or when it was just me alone having that second spot can be nice. So if it was me I'd stick with the 2 hole console.

My dash cover shattered on removing. Well, it shattered more. No time to f with it. May see if the ebay or whatever has one later. For now, JB weld time! Mmmmmm.

And it's nice to have to fold the dand window down. Damn fancy CB mount.

Need to mount my cb up there also.....

I'm thinking about the OD off modification while the dash portion is off. And I have the JEEP autometer temp gauge for the dash.

Need to go to ace for a hole saw for the temp Guage. And I'm hungry. Also using this transgo shift kit. Those are billet accumulators. And sonnax valves for the shuttle valve, tcc, and boost. Sonnax is good stuff.

Another cool 42RLE fact, is that it is a dodge caravan transmission turned longitudinally in our TJ's. That's why it's so heavy Duty, cause the Caravan is a beast. It's also the same as so many other cool Chrysler rigs. The Nitro, intrepid, JK, and more! Chrysler loved their design and just turned it all kinds of directions, this way and that. But internally, it's the same.

It's not a horrible idea on paper. No sprags, no bands, and minimal valves. But that shuttle valve gets pounded each time it shifts. And it times shifts and pressure off CVI's, clutch volume indexes. This is why when you rebuild one, you cannot "tighten" clearances. Ands I will follow the Shift kit instructions on point. Because you cannot reinvent the wheel with this one boys. You only get so much. Do I "need" these parts. Nope it shifts fine.

I am replacing the solenoid block and PRNDL switch with Mopar units while in here.

Still ripping away. Won't be done today. So I get to come to the shop tomorrow. Need this bitch out of here by Tuesday at least. I work 4/10's and this is one of my hoists.

For those that may want to install their own 42rle shift kit and other awesome parts. You should. Make sure to be clean, and go back together with a speed handle. And appropriate torque wrench.

Green transmission gel will hold the accumulators in the case. And the springs into them.

You don't have to be operating room clean. These aren't rocket ships. But don't be dirty. And I hear people say "lint free" rags. Yeah, get those. I don't use them. But you should.
