What MPG are you getting?

My '97 TJ, 4.0, 5 speed, 290,000miles, uncorrected speedometer has averaged 14.24 mpg over the last 6 tanks. Low of 12.55, high of 16.91.....I found it is happiest at about 1250 to 1500 rpms in 5th gear. that works out to 55 to 60 mph. I believe my speedometer is off by about 10% over the whole range...Most of my driving is just putting around. Highest mileage was the week I drove 30 miles round trip every day on state roads 55-60 mph. Lowest was the week I went 4 wheeling once or twice .....

Hmmm well maybe my higher RPM experiment wasn't the best idea. Starting hearing some sort of driveline humming or something. Mostly over 45 mph or so.
Checked front diff when I got home, fluid is fine. Rotated both front wheels & didn't notice any issues. A little play in front driveshaft but not terrible. Not sure whats going on...

Wow ok I totally get the whole 5th gear is useless now. Drove this morning as if I didn't have a 5th gear & it was great! Less shifting, more responsive, 58 mph was turning 2500 rpm in 4th. Hard to get much faster than that in congested Phoenix rush hour. We'll see how this tank goes. Grabbed Sams Club gas last night as prices are spiking again, Sams was $4.19, everything else is $4.39-4.59!?!! Thought oil was crashing down?!!

I filled up today for $3.159/gallon

I average 78.
In my Chebby Volt. The TJ averages 12.5. 35s, just a toy not a commuter. Best was 16.
03 Suburban gets 15.5, but it's used for hauling and towing.

Gonna have to stop and fill my tank today, been a while since I was out of town for about a month and left it parked with half a tank or so. We'll see what my latest MPG was for this tank. Was a mix of city and highway miles, so IDK if it'll be like the last number of tanks in the low 20's. A lot of factors changed, most notably weight from deleting some things like the rear seat.

My last car was a 2000 Honda Insight, 5 speed manual hybrid with a low hp I3 engine, so I'm kinda conditioned to driving economically no matter what I'm behind the wheel of. I'm definitely not aiming to make my Jeep a hypermiling car by any means, or sacrificing it's 4WD abilities.
My current prices for fuel in my area according to gasbuddy.com is this..

It seems the 7/11 I had to take cars at work to fill up daily at a previous job is last reported at $3.19/ gal for regular.

Oh, And my stock 2000-tj 6 cylinder with auto trans get 20 mpg with 3;73 gears if driven nicely. It's the best one out of 5 wranglers that I have owned over the years, for fuel mileage. The hardest was my 03 TJ and a 06 unlimited, all my wranglers were automatic except the 92 YJ, which was my first wrangler, the most comfortable was my 99 GC Limited with the pillowey seats, the fastests was my 05 GC Limited with the hemi.

Ok maybe I'm tripping. Went back to my old gas saving lugging ways this morning & didn't hear any drivetrain noise. Was definitely on deceleration after revving the engine way up or just coasting...

When I last drove my Jeep as a commuter Jeep, I was getting around 14 MPG. I stopped driving it to work and back when gas prices started going up. I started driving a Mini cooper that gets about 25-30 MPGs. It gets almost 400 miles to a tank to where the Jeep gets about 175 or so. LOL I do miss driving the Jeep though. I drive it from time to time to go shopping. :D Thought about trailering it up to the mountains with the Mini so I can go 4 wheeling. :D

I just went by a Chevron here in Sacramento CA and the cheap gas was 6.69. Crazy. I think the cheaper AMPM is 5.09 or something like that. I will look tonight.
