Now that the storm has passed, and Florida is getting started to process what just happened, I want all our Florida members know we are thinking of them. I have received word from all the friends and family that we left behind last year when my job took us from Florida. I am thankful that all ours are safe. We went through many storms while we lived there… I know what y’all are going through!

Sound off, let us know what you need.., let us know you’re safe.

We are fine here in Fleming Island, just lots of rain and our winds peaked at only 36 mph. The hurricane completely missed us here in North Florida 20 miles south of Jacksonville, it headed east out into the ocean just before getting to us. We are very fortunate compared to those south of us. It's still raining and blowing here but where we are it's now just a tropical storm.

Thanks for the concern, I hope our other members fared well or at least not too badly. It turned horrific south of us. 😢

My son has been in contact with me since early yesterday morning by text messages. He and his family live in Port Charlotte which is where Hurricane Ian came on land. They lost power around 0745 yesterday morning due to three local transformers exploding.
There is a lot of flooding, roofs with missing roof tiles, siding missing from houses, metal framed signs with the centers missing.
They moved inland about 5 miles and are staying with his wifes grandparents in a cement block house with a strong roof.
Thankfully they are all doing fine, but it is unknown when power will be restored.

Earlier today I went for a walk to evaluate the damage in our area; still gusty winds and moderate rain.... We did not lose power and there was no major damage that I know of....but there is a lot of debris and broken branches on the streets and sidewalks.
Last night we had HEAVY rains in our area of Jacksonville, but today was when we received some winds that were about 45 mph.

Fortunate here as well for a change...not so much as a rain drop here in Gulf Breeze/Pensacola. I have never understood why after all these years coastal area electric utilities are not underground...not like it is difficult digging here.
