So I’m getting my SYE on finally and wanted to confirm I’m not missing something.

Got it all, seems all good, and I’m following the directions they provided (and common sense like RTV etc, but when you take it apart there are 2 snap rings on the output shaft. When installing it there are none outside the half shell and in the outer small section.
There is a tone ring that will tighten on the shaft according to directions when I torque the Yoke nut.

Anyone that’s done one, that’s correct yes? No snap rings outside the main shell on the output?

That’s how I remember it as well. Kit came with one new snap ring, but it is used to replace an inner snap ring that is in the case from the factory.

Handsome looking Jeep in the background. Even though it's the wrong forum, how about a PIC? ;)

Yeah, that’s my most recent toy. 1982 CJ5 but a 78 V8 304 and a Dana 300 short outpu TC. Pretty fired up about it, but so much to do and finish my TJ I cant get on it. Runs pretty darn well, just some suspension stuff needs work, they got a little silly with the lift.

The flames came with it, ha, but now I’m keeping them to make my wife crazy, ha.

Well, I realized I didn’t measure the shifting Rod, but it goes into 4wd and 4 Lo, that would have sucked if I had to take it apart and cut it.

While I had it out I sanded, cleaned and painted the skid plate and the frame rails. Only surface rust, but some pitting where the skid meets the frame, water must sit there. I hit it all with a 40 flap wheel, and got a stack on Amazon in the past to strip a lot of my Smoker Pit, key reminder, they’re cheap, put a new wheel on regularly, and change they battery to a new charged one, ha.

Krylon Rust Rust Tough I think from O’Reillys looks pretty good.

This is the paint, Mr Blaine and some others suggested it. I have used it in a lot of spots, and it’s designed to go on metal. So I get it bare when needed, then used paint thinner or mineral spirits and clean the place with a decent wipe down. Then hit it with 3 or 4 coats of this paint. You can set sail after a few hours, but I let it set for a day, and it’s rock solid paint.

I was actually going to paint the bottom of the tub, but it’s so clean that I didn’t want it to look like I was covering rust, ha.

So I put the SYE in and the new front drive shaft. I need to put in the Dana 44 this weekend and measure for the rear DS.

I drove it around and the cable shifter needs adjusting. I got it set fine to drive. Drive fine, it’s a different feel when driving. Engaging with the clutch in 1-2 is a little clunky feel.

I torqued the front Yoke nut to 130 foot pounds ( factory and Instructions had not direction on this) and the rear to 200 as the JB conversion instructions said. That front yoke moves a little, not sure if that’s normal.

When you installed the speed sensor in the output housing, how tight was the o-ring? Mine has been in for 3 years and leaking like a sieve. I pulled it out to check on it and it's like a hotdog in a hallway.

Man, I guess it wasn’t something that I thought was an issue when I put it in. I haven’t driven that much, but it’s not leaking yet.

I’m not 100% sure what a Hot Dog in a Hallway means, ha
