Hey guys, im in a bit of a pickle here. I have a pretty bad misfire in my 4L, replaced spark plugs and still had misifre. So I ran an obd2 reader and an ignition code came up. Did some research and looks like I need a new ignition coil for my 06 TJ. I looked for hours for a mopar ignition coil, but to no avail, everywhere I looked was out of stock and those that said they were in stock or would have more in the future were really are just not getting anymore because the item is discontinued by mopar. So now im stuck with 2 choices that I dislike which is buying an ignition coil from crown or omix-ada. Unless someone has another solution for me, is there a certain coil I should be going with now that mopar is unobtainium. Thanks.

Viper coil mod?

Edit: Before anyone points out that there are no performance gains from Viper coil, I agree 100%, but I would rather use a factory coil from a viper/minivan than anything Crown or Omix-Ada.

MSD make a coil, https://www.summitracing.com/parts/...zq1pSw-JXJ44oJ_0_X7InlRzadsQmVu8aAl_zEALw_wcB. I one on my LJR with a turbo and works fine.

I’ve been using Hitachi IGC0136 since May 2020. At the time I purchased, Rock Auto had it listed as the actual OE part.

I put a Viper coil in my 2002 4.0. I bought a kit for the ease of not fabricating a bracket.

I didn’t like the coil rail, PITA changing plugs. No performance gains at all, I just preferred buying it, rather than another coil rail. It works as it should.

Does the ignition coil need to be CARB compliment for CA folks?

I would hope not-Your not going to need to worry about the coil messing with a tune or air fuel ratio unfavorably. But if passing the visual is the issue- a little flat black spray paint and bet this doesn’t even get noticed.

Curious how you determined that the coil was the cause of your misfire...

I installed the Viper coil mod in my 2000 Cherokee for ease of changing plugs. It has a 3 inch lift on it so I had a SYE kit installed. I ended up trading the vehicle and still have the old coil pack from the Cherokee and rear drive shaft. You get near NE Florida any time and you can have them.

With the OEM part being discontinued, and I don't want to do the viper coil mod mentioned above. What is the coil that is recommended now?
