Work from home LJ

so I ordered this https://gr8tops.com/shop/jeepmodels/wrangler-lj-2/tj-lj-exogate

And received this https://www.morryde.com/products/tailgate-reinforcement-kit-2/

The company I purchased from claims they are the same product and 35” will be fine hanging on it.

It appears based on conversations here it will be fine.

I don’t need any other parts to mount on tailgate do I?

I think they're the same thing and looks to have everything I remember when I had one.

This is from the exogate install instructions, you don't appear to be missing anything in that kit.

Hopefully last question before Jeep is drivable.

I have Currie rear trac bar and relocation bracket.

Does the Johnny joint end go frame or axle side?

I thought axle side but the joint is about .25” bigger than the relocation brackets width so it won’t fit in the bracket.

So I’m guessing I’m going to find a way to expand the relocation bracket today. Hopefully someone else has also had this issue and I’m not missing something easy

Found a thread on here mentioning Johnny joint is probably wrong size (I’m at least 2nd if not 3rd owner of my rear track bar). I’m going to give it another go this morning and if it won’t fit, order the right one.

What all will I need to swap it over? I think this is it. https://www.rockjock4x4.com/CE-9112N-15. Ill go measure to see if this is what I already have

update: Well, I measured and the joint I have is a narrow joint (1.2" wide). So its not the wrong joint. Ill try again this morning. Maybe I just did something wrong last night

I guess the ball in the joint could be too wide. I can measure that

Yes. The currie rear trackbar has Johnny joints on both ends. If you're asking which side the adjustable side goes on, it's the axle end. I'd be surprised if you need to replace it, but if you do you can just replace the ball (no need to swap the whole joint, usually).

I'll have one available in a month when I get the midarm on, but that probably won't work for you to wait.

Took a few measurements. Im pretty sure I have the right joint/ball combo. Just doesnt want to fit in the relocation bracket. Maybe I can expand the bracket a tiny bit.

It will. I could probably bend the bracket somehow but not sure if that’s best approach.

This joint won’t fit in either mount

I would look into another axle side bracket before doing too much. You can bend that bracket, but that’s not the correct route.

I could do that. But I find it hard to believe I need something other than the kit from rockjock.

I just ordered this bracket 2 months ago. So I’m way more convinced either:

1) bracket QA was suspect and mine is narrow by a quarter of an inch
2) this ball is too wide

I tried that on mine until I swapped the ball. Thankfully that abomination will be gone soon.

IIRC both ends are the same ball. Yours looks rusted, was it second hand

Yes. The bracket is new. Bar is used. Supposedly only 5k miles on it, but that seems suspect with the ball condition. I’m assuming previous owner swapped the ball out at some point which is why it doesn’t fit in the new bracket.

That's what mine was too, used and swapped.

Do you think the PO of that TB had a custom angled bracket that needed a JJ with a wider barrel? I'd be pissed if you had bought that new and the bracket fit that poorly. Most expensive TB on the market.

No idea. Supposedly was the currie relocation bracket but didnt get that piece in the deal. Ideally Id have gotten everything exactly as installed but didnt work out that way.

Im about to order the replacement pieces. Sadly, didnt end up saving any money buying used with all the trouble Ive had with it, but that comes with learning what im doing as I go!

That's the standard Currie ball as supplied. Bought it in 2012 through Gerald when Currie first started doing the dual JJ rear bar. Ran it 3 years before going to the midarm and I usually average under 500 miles a year on the jeep.

Was this paired with their axle bracket? If so, that would explain why mine was also different and needed to be changed. That's good info for us to share going forward if that's the case!
