Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

It's great to see your weekly progress but I have to be honest if I lived closer I would offer to turn a wrench.

How you liking those AccuTune Fox shocks? I was looking at buying a set of there 2.0 performance remote reservoir w/CD adjuster and since the company is about a half hour from my place I plan to stop by and chat with them.

Since I haven't driven it yet I honestly can't say what I think of the tune Accutune did on the shock.

New starter has SHIPPED.... Yah. We'll see how it works out once it arrives.
I got the 90* fitting I needed to start making fuel lines. Also received the fitting for the coolant hose to intake. And some new zip ties with a screw hole so I can secure stuff better.
Also ordered some 2 gauge battery cables to make new leads with.

Feeling better today so I can finally get back to work.

Finally broke down and turned the heaters on in the garage. It was 38⁰ out here this morning.

Did I mention how much I dislike installing headers? I got the fancy JBA headers out and installed them.
I've used these exhaust gaskets before and have had good luck with them. They are Remflex exhaust gaskets. I'd had blown gaskets before on the old engine and someone recommended them to me.

I did the easiest side first which is the passenger side.

And then I tackled the hard side.

Man there isn't a lot of room down here. I think I'll wait until I get the other starter before I install the Y-pipe.

I'd bought Stage8 locking bolts for the headers. I'll let you know once it's running if they are worth all the headaches 😩 of getting them installed. The bolt is a 12 point hex head with a grove machined in it. Then a flag keeper is installed with it up against the header tube so that the bolts can't loosen back up. A C-clip holds the flag on. That is what the groove is for.

I won't tell you it's taken me about 2.5 hours to install them.

Some of the flags had to be ground to fit and some spots are impossible to reach.

And having a C-clip go flying across the garage didn't help.

It's been a while but some might remember I'm using Stage8 parts in the front axle also instead of the regular two nuts and a keeper.

I run those Stage 8’s. They are a pain to install, but I’ve never had a header bolt come loose.

Thanks Jeff, That makes me feel a LOT better about all the time I spent on them. Hated having header bolts come loose and then blowing out a gasket. Which was why I'd decided to give these things a shot.

Good things are worth waiting on Rick. FWIW, we're all the peanut gallery and you're getting it done! 🇺🇸

Thanks Rich. It seems to be a little at a time, but I cross one or two things off each day.

Got an appointment in the morning to see my prosthesis and then will get back at it.

I ran them for years on a 700WHP camaro. Never once had an issue!

I've told you before, your attitude is inspirational. Having watched peole I worked and socialized with give everything, there isn't a day that goes by where I don't take a moment to thank them. It's the least we can do for their sacrifice!

Stop it Rich... you'll make me blush.

I need to make a New ToDo list/Chart and hang it on my wall in the garage so I can mark stuff off as I go along. The old one I had is a mess from me marking stuff off and trying to add things.

No need for that. I've worked with more than my share of servant leaders. I know one when I see one. Moving on my friend! 🇺🇸

I look forward to the day we get to meet up and hit a trail or two together. Plan on me showing up in your driveway sometime in the next few years.

I'll of course expect a detail job on my completely muddy nasty Jeep..... ;)

Starter should be here on Saturday if FedEx can live up to their delivery date.

But then I can get it installed and then the Y-pipe so I can see how my custom exhaust fits.
Next week I've got another appointment with the VA on Thursday for the foot study I'm in. And then I'm helping my mom move stuff she's had in storage on the westside over to the eastside in the Tri-Cities where she lives now. So, I won't be back home until sometime Sunday.

My goal right now is to get the exhaust installed and the wiring all hooked up. Make the battery cables I need to the alternator and starter. Get the fuel lines plumbed from the filter on the frame to the fuel pressure regulator and to the engine. I'll make the hoses from the filter to the tank but plan on pulling the fuel pump out of the tank and use a 5-gallon bucket to test fire the engine. Once I'm sure it runs, and everything is working then I'll pull the wiring harness back out and loom all of it. Then I can really start putting stuff together. But I want to make sure the engine is good before I get any further on reassembly.

If you see issues with this fire away. I'll listen but don't get butt hurt and slink away if I don't follow your advice. I know some might say just get the whole thing back together and worry about the engine then, but I'd rather know it runs NOW than later.

One of the other fun things is getting the vacuum system figured out. Thankfully the 5.2/5/9 system is pretty simple.

Also started looking at my hydrovac setup and what I'm going to have to redo.

Have any of you used a filter in your power steering/hydrovac system? If you have, what did you use? And how often does it require being serviced?

I run the newer PSC reservoir which has a built in filter. But, I also ran the system for many years prior without a filter with no issues. As I know you know, I run the hydroboost and hydro assist as well.

Personally, commenting on this diagram, I think I would rather have the filter immediately prior to the pump - to protect the pump. I’m less concerned about protecting the cooler. To me, what’s going to cause more damage, some grit hitting the pump, or some grit hitting the cooler?

I've got the newer reservoir also but just hadn't ever seen a filter like they were showing so I wasn't sure if I'd missed something. I've seen a filter in the transmission system but never in the steering.
