I asked this elsewhere (
Post in thread 'Single DIN touch screen'
https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/single-din-touch-screen.50594/post-1214384) but to be fair that was thread drift.

In the UK there are several tempting replacement head units (ex. Xtrons) advertised as compatible with 'Wrangler 2003-2006'.
Anyone know why these wouldn’t work in a 2001?

I have the OEM Uk head unit which apart from VHF channel spacing (different in europe) appears to be the same as sold in the US. No CD, tape only.

The only difference is the earlier openings were squared off and the newer ones have rounded openings. Personally I would avoid a touch-screen radio in a TJ, it's simply too hard to find and touch the precise location on a touch screen while driving. Buttons are much easier. I like touch screens elsewhere but not on my Jeep radios.

Thanks - this is the one I was looking at. Combination of touchscreen with physical knobs. Looks rounded off…

I’m actually going the opposite way and taking out some fancy Kenwood unit and looking for a clean factory unit. The buttons are too small and too much distractions.

Confusingly, similar sizes but squared off units are sold here for JK, but I’m guessing wiring is not compatible?
