Thought I would post the rear shelf I had made in Dubai for my '06 TJ.
Since I don't have any tools here (all back in US) I worked with a shop and designed a metal shelf that will allow me to place my spare wheel inside when dune-bashing (strapped down) and give me easy access to shovels, ropes and shackles, and allow for gear stored underneath during desert camping trips..
Full metal welded and CNC'd, heavy duty powder coating applied as well. Mounted to the bar/frame as I never take off the top of the TJ anyways.
I also added pictures of the design and can add dimensions in case anybody interested. Not visible on these pictures are the 0.8 hooks for strapping down and additional hooks underneath that allow to attach gear.
Open to suggestions on how to further improve!
Thanks
Patrick

Man, cool shelf. Love the look of this. Any idea of the weight?

Nice looking shelf. It reminds me a bit of the TJ rear shelf marketed years ago by Brad Kilby.

Here is the Kilby rack:

And mine, inspired by the Kilby shelf, intended for a lighter load than a 75# wheel and tire:

This is really nicely done. You gave it a bit more space underneath which is super practical for camping by the look of it. Beautiful job!

I hope you're attaching that spare wheel/tire in some fashion; that would become quite the projectile in the event of a panic stop and/or crash!

Yes, that would be quite something. After the picture was taken they attached the 0.8 rings. 6 mounting points total and 3 heavy duty straps criss-cross over the tire before I drove it indeed!
