Jeepers,
Spartan locker v Aussie lock?

Looking for pros/cons on which is better.
I've decided to place the locker on my front Dana 30 instead of my rear Dana 35.

I'm looking at using a Spartan due to the easier install and better price. But I see the Aussie gets a bigger following on Jeep forums.

Thanks for the advice in advance!

If I was installing another lunchbox locker up front, which is a good thing, I personally would go for the Aussie over the Spartan.

What about the powertrax no slip? Pricier, but invisible

That one would be my first choice too having run one for years but the OP appears to want to minimize the cost.

YellaTJ I recommended the Aussie simply because of its superb reputation. Not many run Spartans & I've yet to see or hear any rave reviews on it like with Aussie.

The benefit of the approx. $100 more costly No-Slip is it doesn't make the ratcheting-clicking sound during turns like all other lunchbox lockers make. You can't tell it's there until you shift into 4x4.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to check out the no slip setups now.

I'll mostlikely order an Aussie just due to forum after forum stating it has great reviews.

Also, during my installation of the Aussie locker over the weekend, the owner of Aussie ( a very nice and informed lady) gave me her cell number and said call her any time for questions. So the customer support was great.

I'll recommend the Powertrax No-Slip as well if you are willing to drop the extra $100. Best piece of equipment I've installed in my Jeep to date. I have no experience with the others, Jerry said the No-Slip was best, so that's what I bought. I was leaning towards the Aussie prior to that recommendation.
I have no locker in the rear and have yet to have any trouble off-road; Jeep just keeps on chugging. I was planning on using an air locker in the front, but there is no need (at least for me) to drop that amount of $$$ into the front axle anymore. Now I have more change to get a good rear axle. You will be amazed what that little locker will do for you off-road.
Installation was easy, the only issue was due to the 3:73 ring gear. The instructions say you don't have to remove the carrier, but the tall ring gear would not allow the center shaft to come out. I had to remove the carrier/ring gear to install. I'm assuming this will be similar in any lunchbox locker.

I did this homework around a year ago. when discover my Front Dana 44 was bent for the bad and I stick a Dana 30 that has laying around.

Spartan was the way to go for me. I have no regret on went to this direction at all. I just notice it is on when the Jeep is on 4WD.

If you haven't, Please read this, Lunch box locker JP Magazine article it may help you to decide.

My Dana 44 ARB air locker is over fifteen years old (an outdated weaker vertion then what's on offer these days) and still going strong. It's been pushing 33x10's all that time and never given me any issues at all but it has saved my bacon more times then I care to remember.

I just dropped my ratios from 4.11 to 4:55 and had another one installed up front, all that was needed was a new seal in the 44, gotta love that!

I put a Spartan in last week. Definitely an easy install and not having to reuse the shims makes it really simple. The kicker for me was I could get the Spartan on Amazon for a *lot* less than the Aussie and nearly half the price of the Lokka which is manufactured just around the corner from me! No complaints at all so far - in 2WD you literally cannot feel any difference at all and in 4WD yes, it clickity clanks just as you would expect on the bitumen.

So its definitely a +1 for the Spartan for me - I didn't want to spend a heap and it has delivered so far.

I've had an Aussie in my front Dana 30 for almost 15 years now (Got a Detroit locker in my rear Dana 44). Absolutely no issues. The ratcheting sound folks talk about is really overstated - you don't really hear it when in 2WD. And when in 4WD if I hear it I don't care (I've got other things I'm paying attention to). You'll only hear it (if you do at all) when taking hard turns slowly (like in a parking lot).

I get more noise and banging and such from the Jeep's rear Detroit Locker.

My truck in the background (I just noticed it in the picture) has True-Tracks front and rear.
