Work from home LJ

Was this paired with their axle bracket? If so, that would explain why mine was also different and needed to be changed. That's good info for us to share going forward if that's the case!

Yup, ran it with the Currie axle bracket that came with it. Unfortunately UPS lost that one.

Out of garage for first time in 4 months (thanks in large part to bum knee).

I took a lot of short cuts I normally wouldn’t just to get it movable again. Now to dial those in.

I definitely need to work on ensuring axles are square and check pinion angles.

I also have body lift/mml to go on next (maybe this weekend).

pretty happy with progress given torn acl and first time I’ve ever done any of this

Just got off phone with a very reputable shop near me and they were 100% against 5.13s in a non rubicon.

Told me the pinion head on a Dana 30 isnt big enough. He would only do 4.88s. They would not align Jeep without me paying them for gears/lockers/installing my body lift and motor mount lift. Said they were too backed up on work to justify using their rack if I wasnt getting other work done.

.... So I guess im going to call around to see who will align it. Ive done the at home toe in, but figured Id pay to know its right. If anyone has recommendations in the Charlotte area Im all ears.

That’s pretty crappy, turning away an alignment because you’re not having them do enough other work? 🤔

Yeah wild. I called them bc I had heard they’re great. Said they couldn’t do body lift/mml til after thanksgiving (and that was only with me agreeing to gears/lockers)

So guess I’m getting some beers and doing it myself!

They are both pretty easy as long as you don’t have rusted hardware. I just did them in December last year and didn’t have any problems. Well, the JKS MML I used came with two M8 bolts instead of M10 bolts, so I had to wait until the next day and make a trip to the hardware store to get the correct bolts.

Don’t give up your extra earnings that fast. Your alignment is only going to get so much better and the rest is just fun tinkering. I’d find somebody else to do the gearing and work on the rest yourself as time allowed.

I agree. I bought Jeep to learn how to do all of this stuff, but almost took easy way out bc knee & extra $$$.

Id definitely regret having someone else do the work and not learning the rest of the process. The $$$ savings is just a bonus.

I was nervous about having jeep sit for 6+ months (adding time for recovery post surgery) but now that I can move it around, Im not as worried about spending weekends the rest of the year getting it dialed in.

I just use a tape measure and butt it up against the tire, then do the other side of the tire - it's pretty precise if you have an auto locking tape. Way easier and faster than pulling wheels and putting on plates.

any tips on ensuring axles are square? That was my main concern with the alignment. I know my toe in is already set correctly. I’m not 100% sure the rear axle is square.

I don’t recall- do you have adjustable control arms?
