Hey People.

Was working on the Jeep today replacing the rear main seal and the oil pan gasket.

So I found the following in the bottom of the oil pan:

The pieces are plastic not metal.
Any idea what it may be from?

Hopefully your aware the RMS on the 2.5 is replaced via flywheel access and not the oil pan.

Is she idling sounding like a diesel engine.

Ohhh yes I am very well aware. It actually came out fairly easy.

And very yes to the other question. I had read about that and most post said that was normal noise for a high mileage Jeep. Looks like I will be adding another to do to my to do list.

Yep, Melling has a complete replacement timing chain kit with everything needed.

At least on the 4.0 you can reach the bottom of the timing chain with the oil pan off and test the deflection.

My 4.0 snubber seemed like hard rubber and not brittle plastic.

Yeah according to rock auto there is a rubber peice and a plastic piece. TY all for your help. I will be ordering both parts.

You should be replacing everything at this point not just the tensioner as the chain is most likely worn out.

I understand and I am glad I didn't just order the parts:

Got the cover off today to inspect and the tensioner and rubber piece are fully intact.
I suspect the parts were the remnants of the old one and someone replaced them recently.

Ordered a new gasket and seal from the auto parts store will be here tomorrow.
