Snapped a rear axle shaft…

Got the unbroken shaft out with no issues, but the snapped side is posing a challenge. I’ve got a long wooden dowel pushing the broken piece into the diff, however this side is acting like there’s not enough clearance for the C clip to pop out. Too much pressure seems to move the spider gear.

Are there any tricks here or just keep trying until eventually it comes out?

Yes, center pin was out or else the other side wouldn’t have come out 😜 It was just one side being an extreme pain. There just wasn’t much clearance between the c-clip and the spider. Had to do some careful prying, but eventually got it. Then magnet on a 4foot telescoping rod to pull out LOTS of fragments. Hard part is over… and glad. I see how this could be a trail repair but definitely don’t want to be in that position!

One of my good ideas that never came to fruition was to find a piece of scrap rebar to zip-tie to my roll cage for busted axle shafts. Sometimes they can be a real booger to remove!
