I usually hold the cutter with pliers and then reverse the drill to spin the arbor out. I try to grab near the base of the cutter so it doesn’t chip or break any teeth. So far I haven’t broken any cutter this way.
Clamp the arbor in a vise with the jaws on one flat. Good vise grips that grab the slots on the cutter. Won't hurt the arbor and if you ruin the cutter, go get another one. That little quirk is why you need spares for the most commonly used versions.
This happens every time I use it. At first I used to rap the cutter in a rag before clamping but now I just grab the cutter with vise grips. I have yet to ruin one.

I find when I use them properly with medium speed and just let them work, they don't bind nearly as bad. Do the typical DIY jam it or get it bound up and they lock on pretty hard. The washer helps with larger ones.
