1970's and things kids no longer do

I only have one account that i know of

Don't worry about it, its a bit of an inside joke. I'm well known for my dislike of (much of) technology - particularly smartphones, facebook and similar "social media", and stupid features on cars. With that said, I made my living in hi-tech, designing computer hardware and software. I'm retired now, thank Goddess - I don't have to keep up any more!

This is a nice addition to the video...very accurate

This describes my childhood to a tee. Mom push me out the door at around 8:30 on a summer morning.... locked the door behind me so she could clean the house and told me that she'd open it again at noon and lock it again at 1. My friends up and down the street all had similar experiences. So we rode our banana seat bikes all over the place in a 5 mile diameter all summer long and made our way back home by dinner every night.

lawn darts, javelins, shooting arrows straight up in the air, dirt clod wars with improvised trenches and forts, shooting slingshots and BB guns at each other, mudbowl full contact football after a good rain, being told to take our bikes, get out of the house and don't come back until the streetlights are on ... an incredible childhood in the 70's and early 80's

Not gonna lie, there's a lot of irony here... 😂

We used to shoot bottle rockets through vehicles with their windows down.

a few years ago I was at a party and my mini van was full of the fireworks, mortars etc. I am looking in the van for the next thing to light and the big rocket being lit fell over and screeched right past my head and in one side door of the van and out the other open one.

Ahhh good old bb gun wars...yes kids you are hearing that correctly we used to shoot each other with bb guns..eye protection? Absolutely not, didn't even cross our minds. Shoot your buddy in the face? Absolutely..

Sounds like you were close to needing a new mini van.

My dad shot his brother right between the eyes and it drew blood. They then convinced my grandma that it was her fault that there was a nail sticking out somewhere in their barn that he ran into.

The important thing to note is they weren't using the same type of BB gun that I had as a kid, theirs was considerably weaker.

I was born in '83, on the lower east side of Manhattan, and spent my early double-digit years in Brooklyn. I guess that makes me a 90's kid. I did all these things. My favorite show when I was a kid was The Honeymooners and I Love Lucy. We jumped bikes, saved scrap wood from construction piles, built tree houses (a tree does indeed grow in Brooklyn), drank from hoses, played Monkey Bar Wars, "ASSES UP" was our favorite school yard game, etc. I also got my first computer in 1994 (a Mac Performer 495C), had a NES, SNES, and Sega, played D&D. When I moved to rural NEPA at age 14, I was happy to find that they were basically the same (except their pizza sucked)...

But - my kids, born in the late 2000's, do the same too. As do all their friends. Not a single one of my son's friends hesitated to drink water from a hose at football practice. My teenage daughter flew to AZ this summer to see her friend all by herself. She's headed to Belize next summer by herself as well. My son routinely walks through the woods, exploring and looking for animals.

Kids (and people really) are basically the same as we've ever been - it's the stuff around us that changes. I never understood all those that suggest otherwise 🤷‍♂️

Pic of my kids climbing this big as jungle gym thing, wishing they had this when I was their age!

lol!

I played high school football in the 70s. Spikes were steel and you usually fell on your ass running across the blacktop to get to the field. Padding in the helmets? Hah! We were lucky if all the webbing was still there.(Might explain a few things)

We had crab apple fights that our parents would rip us for, then our dads would whack us harder with the crab apples than we ever did. In the 60s, we'd have sand burr wars. The only rule was no shirts allowed. I whipped two handfuls at my cousin and got him in both tits. My little brother nailed me in the spine. A neighbor kid got my brother in the forehead. Good times.
