Bestop vs Quadratec Soft Top

I folded it back like this to achieve the largest possible opening,

Perhaps it is supposed to fold like the red line, which would keep it from flapping me in the head, but this results in a really small opening & a quite unimpressive feature.

I have tried both the way you have it is correct, per Bestop. When I tried the red line, it folded in even worse.

How does yours fold? My NX opens over the entire front seat area.

I'm really pleased with mine, it is much quieter than the Rampage version. Stowing the windows isn't as easy as the Rampage. I have the roll up Mastertop bag that straps to the roll bar at the tailgate top and that works just fine.
The sunrider feature is great, I use it a lot.

Mine opens like this:

@WestCoastDan

I have the same exact top twill and everything. I have the same issue with it folding in with the wind. Around 50 miles an hour, it will fold in and hit me in the head. I tried reaching out to Bestop, and they told me to make sure it was folded back all the way (of course I knew that). I wonder if it is an issue with the twill by chance. But all in all I can't help either, but I am happy with the top other than the poorly designed sun rider feature. I have even tried tieing it down with bungee cords, which helps, but the issue still happens.
If you are referring to the fold of fabric above your head when the Sunrider is flipped back, it's an easy fix. I've had three JKs prior to theTJ, all with Trektops and have been doing the following since day one...

When I flip the Sunrider back I stow the front removable bow under that flap of fabric. It sits on top of the sport bar tucked all the way under, up against the sound bar and supporting the fabric fold preventing it from being blown down on your head. I put two rare earth magnets under the sport bar padding right where the Bestop removable bow will sit when stored as described above. The magnet holds the bow in place firmly so it doesn't travel.

In the summer the Sunrider is open more than closed so it's rare that I actually use the removable bow; it stays attached to the magnet in position on the sport bar.

@WestCoastDan Mine has the pivot point farther back so the front Sunrider panel doesn't fold in half. Rather the full sunrider folds back in one pieces. Everything from the windshield to the sound bar is open. Regardless, you're halfway there. Remove the front support bar from the door surround and slide it back on the sport bar padding about ten inches so it is under the flaccid flap of fabric. It won't hit your head any more. Something else I notice.. Do the side arms for the Sunrider on your top sit in the hollow on the top of the door surrounds? Do the door surrounds act as a rain gutter? Is yours a SuperTop or TrekTop? You don't have the plastic side clips. What you have is how my JK tops were (although they were all Trektops). My only complaint with the Trektop Nx on the TJ is no rain gutters.. it's like the factory top. Water runs off the top on you when you get in the Jeep after a rain.

I see there's a difference between the TrekTop frameless top and the stock type top openings. My TrekTop hinges all the way at the back of the door, not half way back like the top in the above pictures. My TrekTop never hits my head.

I have had nothing but soft tops on my Jeep since day 1. I started with the factory top, which was great, then replaced it with a Bestop factory replacement, which was also great.

I've settled on something very different though and couldn't be happier.

My Jeep doesn't have AC, so from May through September here in Colorado, I run with no doors or windows, but want shade. My initial solution was the factory soft top (or Bestop replacement) in the winter and a safari top in the summer. It was a good combination, but I wanted to try a frameless top so I could leave the top section on year round, and just zip or unzip the windows according to the season.

I chose the Smittybilt Bowless combo soft top for a few reasons. First, the windows actually store in a zippered pouch in the top. Second, the price was very good. Third, and probably the most important reason to me, it has quite a bit of very functional storage over the front seat section.

I use this storage all the time and can't imagine being without it now.

I've had this top for going on 3 years now and it has held up very well.

This picture was taken just after I put the windows and doors on this fall. Please ignore the wrinkles in the rear corner. I forgot to put the curved plastic inserts in before putting the windows on. It actually fits very snuggly.

Here is what the corner looks like with the insert in, which I was able to slide in without having to take the windows back off.

And here is how I run the same top in the summer months:

Relocating the ‘extra bow’ is probably the right solution.
I believe the hinge on the Sunrider frame is too far forward; if it were closer to the roll bar, it would allow the header to rest farther back, virtually eliminating the possibility of the fabric from sagging like an old sock.

Relocated the ‘extra bow’ to the rear corners of the door frames.
There aren’t any ‘notches, grooves, slots, etc. like there are above the center of the door opening.
I’m beginning to think this is the intended/required location of the bar, but I can’t find anything to confirm or even suggest this as the right way.

Anyway, here’s a couple of pics:

I place the removable bow farther back, right up against the sport bar. It sits flush on the side sport bar, right on the rivets in the bow. That said, the situation is the boss so keep it where you have it if that helps manage the extra fabric. The magnets help keep the bow in place because as you've found there are no slots to lock it into.

I painted the removable bar black too..
