Trying to decide on TrueTrac & DuraGrip limited slip

You'll notice your tires chirping on sharp turns in parking lots on occasion. But no clicking or catching like with an auto-locker.
I had front and rear Truetracs and recall no chirping on sharp turns at all. I kept wondering if the shop had really installed them lol.
 
Some of you are confusing TrueTrac with Detroit locker, get your shit together.
TT is silent, smooth, no jerking, twerking, chirping or farting. Jerry did a great job explaining its limitations by sharing his experience, run what he said through your imagination and it becomes very clear what it is and what it is not.

I only have one thing against TT - don't put it in the front, for my needs it is useless and a waste. Otherwise i have nothing but good things to say about it, and think that it will serve Mikes stated needs well, in rear or both axles.
 
Staying with 33’s. Less than 15% chance I go to 35’s.

Hey @Jerry Bransford I'm building my TJ to be a daily driver that will be weekend wheeler/overlander. I really like the factory LSD in my rear Dana 44, I've been trying to figure out an upgrade for my Dana 30 to have more grip. I'm running 235/85r16 tires, it sounds like a TrueTrac would be a good option in my front axle, would you agree?

For level slick trails that aren't uneven enough to lift a tire up off the ground a Truetrac is fine. But for tougher trails where a front tire can get lifted up off the surface a lunchbox locker would be a much better choice. The Aussie lunchbox locker or No-Slip lunchbox locker from Powertrax are both great choices. The difference between them is the Aussie and most other lunchbox lockers will click/ratchet softly when making slow turns in 2wd like when in a parking lot. The $80 more costly No-Slip is silent during slow-speed parking lot turns. I loved my No-Slip front locker in my previous TJ. And neither affect steering when in 2wd. :)

Thank you, that is actually exactly what I was looking for. Looks like the Powertrax 9204302700 is what I need for my Dana 30 front axle!

I got a True Track about a year ago for daily driving gravel roads and muddy paths and it is awesome. Made a huge difference in traction. It also is much more predictable when I decide to get a little sideways in the turns on gravel under power.
No chirping, don’t notice any difference on dry pavement.
Would totally recommend it if you aren’t a rock crawler.

I have a linked saved for one in my bookmarks, but I'm still working on getting my driveline working correctly on my swap. I thought I was nearly done in August with my diesel swap but I'm having to swap transmission, again, so I have spent the money on the PowerTrax yet.

It's looking like I'm going to need to regear my axles for the AW4 transmission I'm going to, if anything just for where this short stoke TDI likes to rev. I'm trying to decide between 4.56 and 4.88. When I regear I'll upgrade to the PowerTrax as well. I'm trying to find a wrecked RIght Hand Drive XJ Cherokee so I can get a High Pinion Dana 30 for my RHD TJ as an upgrade as well.
 
So another question for you on this @Jerry Bransford. I'm tempted to go ahead and grab the PowerTrax No Slip since it's back in stock, but I'm also switching to an NP242 transfer case out of an XJ Cherokee, can I still run this PowerTrax setup with the Full Time 4WD from my NP242? I've tried searching for an answer with really no success so far.

Any mode of 4x4 will lock that front No-Slip locker up. Do you really need a full-time 4x4 mode like the 242 provides? The 242 is longer than the 231 is so that shortens the rear driveshaft which makes the drivetrain angles more sensitive to suspension lift height. Plus the 242 is not quite as strong as the 231 is.

So I'm in a bit of a unique situation, I've moved the entire drivetrain with my TDI diesel engine forward in the engine bay 7" inches. With the SYE Kit on the NP242 I'm going to have something like a 21 ~ 22" inch long rear driveshaft. Mixed with the adjustable control arms I have, drivetrain angles aren't going to be an issue.

I'm not going for a hardcore offroader with my TJ, especially because of the Right Hand Drive, I've got a stock suspension with a small body lift for clearance of my 31.8" tires. I like the idea of having a Full Time 4WD option in my TJ in rain and bad weather where I live. There have been times before I started my swap with the original 4.0l engine where the rear end would get loose in heavy rain even with the crappy 42rle transmission it came with. Being able to shift the transfer case into Full Time 4wd would be a benefit for my daily driver/weekend overlanding build but I want to make sure I can use it with this PowerTrax setup as well.
