Ford 302 engine swap

I'm pretty sure the old ford small block is smaller than an sbc. The big problem with using one is finding a rear sump oil system for it. Idk if the fox body pan would have enough clearance

I don't remember what the reason was but a buddy with a 5.0 in a CJ-7 had told me it was harder to mount than a SBC. But he had one in his and it was a sweet rig.

The oil pump is up front so there is a bigger pan up front than a sbc.

There are a ton of rear sump pan options available for the 302.

Wasn't the carburated version of the 302 like 140hp or something. Hardly worth the effort IMO.

It all depends on the application. The carbed 5.0 in the Mustang was 203hp which seemed mighty low, considering my 83 with headers and an electric fan would pull the front wheels off the pavement.

You have to keep the 302/5.0 cast iron blocks below 500hp due to block splitting also.

Having done tons of engine swaps. I couldn't be convinced to do a quality swap job with anything under 300hp stock.

Then the fuel injected 5.0 would work.

Which one? The Coyote sure. Even the newest of the 302 5.0s in the mid 90's before they went to the mod engine were only just over 200hp IIRC. Like 215 or something stock non-Cobra stuff that is.

Facepalm all you want. Am I wrong? Last I checked a '94 Mustang GT 5.0 had 215hp. I just searched it bud.

The early 90's 5.0 was 225hp, with just a few mods you could have right at 300hp.

This same time frame not a single OEM was truly building high horse power engines.

What makes the mustang 302/5.0 shine is the 351W cam and firing order. That is what woke up the mustang and the 302.

As I said earlier long tube headers, electric fan and smog pump delete. My carbed 82 GT would lift the front tires off the pavement.
