Powertrax no slip locker installed

I had one in my Dana 30 before I installed a 44 with lockers. It worked great.
Went all over Moab with it. I was limited by clearance and tires more than traction.

Tempting to put one in the front of my Gladiator Mojave.

It’s been a while since I’ve done it, but I thought on the Dana 30 you don’t have to remove the carrier. I was able to just remove the spider gears and put the powertrax in.

I think. I’m old and forgetful

I had to remove my carrier when I installed my Torq Locker. Like mentioned earlier, the ring gear prevented the cross pin from being removed.

I think it has to do which gears you have, but not positive on that. I have 3.73 gears.

You’re right. That’s what it was.
3.07 gears did not require removal of the carrier.

The ONLY good thing about those gears :)

Good point. I have 3.73 gears. No idea what would occur with different gearing.

It’s been such a long time since install, but you definitely needed to remove the carrier so you can remove the pin which interferes with the ring gear. This is no big deal. Just keep everything in its original orientation so the bearing caps and shims go back in exactly as they were.

My bearing caps weren’t in the correct orientation when I removed mine 😵‍💫. Thanks PO. Also what shims? The only shims I’ve found are installed underneath the bearings, which most people wouldn’t change unless they were damaged, like I found one of mine to be.
The spider gears have thrust washers, two curved (upper and lower) and two flat (left and right). Of course one of the flat ones was missing on mine when I took it apart.
That said, the powertrax manual says to remove the thrust washer prior to install of the locker. 🤷‍♂️

Got mine in today, will probably install next week. For some reason my instructions are for c clip axles. Anyways are new ring gear bolts needed?

In my case, they shipped the wrong instructions, I got the same thing. Confused the Hell out of me...

Ring gear bolts are supposed to be single use. I reused a set when I installed my PT no slip. When I had it regeared I’m sure I got new.

I put new ones in, with red loctite, when I put my Dana 30 Torq Locker in. I got them from Denny's Driveshafts.

Don’t need loctite, especially red. The concern with reuse isn’t coming loose (especially with 55lbs) but rather the risk of shattering.
