I think I want to ditch my Genright dropdown tire carrier and put the spare in the cargo area. Tire is 37"x12.5". Should I lay it flat, or stand it up behind the driver seat? If I stand it up, any ideas to keep it safe?

Are you sure a 37" will fit laying down? My 35" barely fits laying flat in that space...

Edit: Maybe if you removed all of the rear seat brackets, that might free up enough space?

I was thinking about a basket over top if flat to keep weight down, bad idea?
This setup worked well for me in the past.

I'm just going off of the ideas of mrblaine. He's built several elevated platforms that allow storage underneath. It's the way I'm going when I get the opportunity.

hence the elevated platform with storage for recovery gear, tool bags, etc. underneath

I was looking at the tuffy storage boxes, what about about that?

I assume you're referring to the underseat storage drawer?

This drawer is designed to live underneath the bench seat. I'm not sure if it's designed to support the weight of cargo on top?

good point, I didn't consider that.

It wouldn't take much to reach out to Tuffy to find out for sure? They've been easy to get ahold of in my past experieces. Or maybe someone else will chime in here?

They have a massive drawer one too that weights a good bit and sacrifices a good deal of space for the sliders. If it were me, I'd go low tech.

"I'm not sure if it's designed to support the weight of cargo on top?"

Looks as if it supports a rear seat and two fat ass adults ?? 600lbs ??

Tuffy advertises that the rear seat maintains the fold & tumble option so I'm guessing it utilizes the factory brackets somehow? Even if the seat was supported by the drawer it would be on the outer edges close to the walls of the tub where it has more structural support.

Are you telling us you're fitting two 300lb people in the backseat of your TJ !? o_O

I have a Tuffy console and glovebox so I'm not a hater but IMO the storage trays are expensive, add considerable weight and not much in the way of functionality.
