Wavetrac differential for Dana 30

It's nothing special, it's just another torsion style limited slip differential like the Detroit Truetrac.

Jerry,

Wavetrac caught my attention because the company lit says that their unit does not let the front wheel that is in the air get the torque like other helical torque diffs. If it works as advertised, it sounds like the next step in the evolution of torque biasing differentials. It is not cheap, but sounds like like a good unit for off-road and highway use that could give you an edge when you need it.

06lj,

I agree the Wavetrac price is currently in the range of locking diffs. but does seem to fill a niche that selectable locking front diffs cannot for highway use in certain weather conditions and still be an improvement over the current Torsen style diffs for off-road.

I'm trying to figure out which conditions on the highway where you want a front diff that stops wheel spin on the low traction side. What would those be? That and that is a ton of money for a niche product if your assessment is accurate.

If I wanted an oddball front diff that wasn't limited slip, open, or a selectable, I'd get something with one ways in it on both sides like side x sides and some high performance desert cars have.

All I know is I wasted my $$$ installing two Truetrac torsion style limited slip differentials 20+ years ago, they didn't work worth a crap offroad. Great for onroad use but offroad they were worthless on the types of trails I grew to like. I ended up replacing both of them with lockers and never looked back.

All I know is I bought one about 10 years ago to install into something, never did, still NIB, figured with the prices going up the way everything has it would be a good time to dump it. Nope, sells for about 5 bucks more than I paid for it. I'm not even going to carry to the front driveway for that.

I put a Trutrac is the back of my 2001 F250 and it's great...really helps when I tow 5 tons of gravel and blow the GVWR out of the water with my dump trailer.

Was seriously considering a front locker...D50 so at the time I'd need to upgrade the axle...and after adding up costs and time I decided to buy a Jeep. Cheaper to buy a TJ 4x4 play vehicle than fing with a truck I can't replace for less than $40k possibly 60.

My Jeep has super 30 and 35 e-lockers and that's perfect...I couldn't imagine a Trutrac on the Jeep. I want control of my lockers all the time...on the road...on the trail...in the snow.

We don't live far from Big Bear. Lots of folks go up there so my first question pertaining to front locker choice is always "you gonna go to Big Bear and play in in the snow? If yes, selectable up front, if no, it gets a Detroit.
